Renesongs Hi -This weeks challenge is Syncopation If you don't know what it means Google it - good luck
Shredder3211 Here is a site that explains it, it`s just rhythms in unexpected places... http://www.empire.k12.ca.us/capistrano/mike/capmusic/rhythm/syncopation/syncopation.htm
Shredder3211 Maybe we must change it then, but it is supposed to be a challenge? What do u guys think? ?
dyllels Oh yes! I say stick with it. It will be a challenge ? EDIT: Even tho i said that, still no clue where to start ☹
AlanRatcliffe Stick with it. To explain it simply. Syncopation is putting accents on beats that are not usually accented. In most western music, that means anything but the one and the three. Think of a reggae guitar "skanking" - it accents beats two and four.
Renesongs Yeah what Allen said.... Don't get to hung up about the definition of syncopation it is what most guitarists do naturally when they strumming a guitar, i.e. playing little groups of beats that don't fall exactly on the 1 2 3 4 counts. Of course you get degrees of syncopation from a simple blues shuffle rhythm to a reggae or ska then on to extreme syncopation as in "Take 5" or "Mannenberg" or this one ... http://gfsa.s3.amazonaws.com/36/Rain%20-%20Renesongs.mp3

deanBailey Poly-Rhythms will make this a lot easier too. Think Tool (Tool has more of a straight forward weird time signature vibe), Marching Dead, Dream Theater (during the non cheesy parts) and Mastodon are a good examples.
Spyke Trippp wrote I'd say listen to some Tool riffs as a start .... hehe Tool was one of the first thoughts that came to mind - as was FuziGish. It's almost impossible to dance to Tool... ?
Shredder3211 yup-like stop go aliens, thats prob y tool has such freaky vids-who thinks of that, both awesome and somewhat disturbing...those weird looking dudes that vomit while spinning to make a circle, hehe just awesome if u ask me!
