learnt a neat little trick today

I am always looking for back tracks for practice so I downloaded audacity and downloaded songs from the GtP tabs website (They got pretty neat stuff there)
GtP 3-5 will run in Tux guitar with the tab as well as the notation if preferred.

I then remove the tracks in Tux guitar of the instruments I do not want, resave for example file name-"No Lead", then record this file to Audacity.

I use a normal double ended stereo jack from the ear phone socket out to the Mic in socket. (Note unplug any webcams, Plug and pray mikes etc befor recording or you will pick up serious background noise and hiss.

Once recorded, I export the files to MP3 format and voila! I have BT for use on a MP3 player as a line in to the amp

You can do this with software and not have to suffer any quality loss from the soundcard out/in conversion. It's been a while since I've done it, so probably all the software has changed since then, but basically it's just a software audio router that routs the outputs of one program to the inputs of another without getting any hardware involved. If it's still around, search for ReWire VST.

Thanks Alan. I will have a browse. Being born BC ? makes this electronic stuff somewhat challenging

There is a way to do it in audacity...
will check as i have done it before, but a while ago!

There is a software playthrough option in the Transport menu, but i cant get it to work right now.
i am using Audacity 1.3.14-beta (Unicode) though.

To convert MIDi to MP3 from audacity, a program called LAME is required which is available as free download

I've just been using Guitar pro to tab stuff and then export it to WAV and convert to MP3 using NHC Switch. NHC Also do a free programme called Soundtap that allows you to directly record whatever is playing on your pc.

EDIT: Soundtap and Switch are free if you use the basic home use version or downgrade to it after the trial period is up. The basic versions seem to have all the features you need for this kind of thing.
