The Challenge October 2013

Renesongs · 2013-09-26T12:40:34+00:00

Hi I have had not entries for September so I am reissuing G-Man's Challenge. All entries to be PM-ed to me by the 27th of October G-Man wrote So with the change of seasons from winter to spring looming yet again I thought why not make this months theme "Transitional Tunes". Basically start your entry out and see if you can flip it's mood 180 degrees in 2 minutes or less while still carrying the main idea of the song. Try end up with something that conveys a sense of transition or change, or, evolve the whole thing as you go, keeping the central melody or theme of the song. See if you end up somewhere completely different but with a hint of familiarity. Or stick a sub theme in on it. For example "Progress of a fire (flames to ashes)", or "Winter to Spring", or even "Life Cycle of the Mosquito", or a genre fade from Punk into Blues. Try be subtle and blend them in or do some sudden time changes, but it has to sound controlled. ? Sounds tricky, right? ?

Renesongs wrote Alas no entries this month to this cursed topic. I will need to consult the Gods to seek a resolution to this problem.

so here are a couple of ideas:
- open the topic up for ideas, choose the best three or four, make a poll, and get folks to vote for their fave
- get the winners (or best runners up) from the past 6 months to choose a challenge and do the same - poll it and get folks to vote for their fave

just a thought, you know, shake things up a bit. (i must admit, this is the first challenge i started recorded something for. just never got anywhere with it...)

Hammeron

If you could get the hall of fame updated maybe we could go from there.
Maybe that would offer some inspiration.
Just saying.

Heish, you are persistent! ?

But you do make a good point - over the past 3 years of (occasionally) entering I've seen precious few entries (and there have been great ones) make it into the Hall of Fame, which tells me that the cream of cream of the crop make it there - which makes it a great resource for researching what makes a top notch challenge entry (and a quality composition and recording).

I'm kickin' myself, I had a old unfinished challenge entry that I could have used as a basis for this one, only realized this on Tuesday that I didn't have to re-invent the wheel - Doh! ?

I'm afraid it's less glamorous than that. We've just not gotten around to it.

I think you need to make Hammeron in charge of the Hall of Fame. She certainly has the drive to do it

Yeah, I think you're right.

You up for it, Hammeron?

briang-telkomsa-net

My vote goes to Hammeron as well

FruitarGeek

hahaha well despite the lack of entries, it looks like hammeron won this round. Yay.

Btw, I hope to soon contribute to the competitions. Ek is amper klaar met die examen

G-Man

I had a few hectic life changing events in the last 2 months so I haven't played much at all. I am converting my unused granny flat into a "studio" in mid November so I'm hoping to participate a bit more in future.

I concur.

Ah yes, perhaps I should have phrased it better,

"...Nominated for the Hall of Fame"

well, if that's the case, why not let her choose the next challenge, too?

I think you've hit on the answer. Hameron gets to choose the next theme and she gets to be the custodian of the hall of fame. It's a win-win... win. ?
