Hi I have had not entries for September so I am reissuing G-Man's Challenge. All entries to be PM-ed to me by the 27th of October
G-Man wrote: So with the change of seasons from winter to spring looming yet again I thought why not make this months theme "Transitional Tunes".

Basically start your entry out and see if you can flip it's mood 180 degrees in 2 minutes or less while still carrying the main idea of the song. Try end up with something that conveys a sense of transition or change, or, evolve the whole thing as you go, keeping the central melody or theme of the song.

See if you end up somewhere completely different but with a hint of familiarity. Or stick a sub theme in on it. For example "Progress of a fire (flames to ashes)", or "Winter to Spring", or even "Life Cycle of the Mosquito", or a genre fade from Punk into Blues. Try be subtle and blend them in or do some sudden time changes, but it has to sound controlled. ?

Sounds tricky, right? ?
Based on the fact that nobody had posted on the thread since way back.....I could tell nobody entered. I figured you might do that and re-instate because it's a good challenge. Good deal. Man I hope I can get to do this.

Two different pieces that change moods while keeping the theme.......does the instrumentation have to stay the same between the two distinct sections? For example.....if the first piece was piano and acoustic........could the next section be drums, electric guitar, bass and organ, say? So there are essentially 6 instruments overall, but still 4 or less in each mood.

    I'm guessing no. ?

Thanks for staying on top of this.
I wanted to enter but I didn't even get to finish my main important stuff I needed to this month (was one of those months).

I'll definitely get time in October.........hopefully.
I too would like to enter this one. But I am in the final few weeks of my LLB degree, so my attention is diverted elsewhere for the moment :'(

+1, I'm still keen on this one, glad it's been rolled over. Looking like I have a relaxed two week period in October, that'll be useful!

Perhaps I'm remembering wrong, but I recall Adrian commenting recently that he interpreted this as four instruments playing at any one time (or was it four tracks playing at any one time?) This is pretty much how I've interpreted it in the past as well... :-[

I've always understood a regular challenge to be as if it was a live 4 pc band...... a max of 4 instruments. An additional vocal track is a freebie. Keyboards are supposed to be one channel......so if you have a synth..it is not cool to layer a bunch of other layers as they each count as an instrument.....even though live keys players do this all the time including having an EP or B3 on hand etc etc. The reasoning given is that it levels the playing field for folks with simple setups. Fair enough.

I just wondered since this is two distinctly different moods.......... ? ....reaching, but why not? ?

It's no big deal.......this can be done with one guitar.
I'll have time this month, if I am allowed to enter my own compo that is.

Sweet, i wanted to enter this challenge - glad it got reissued ?
I'm hoping to enter this one. Recently bought a set of tiny monitors and all its had the pleasure of playing is series and movies and a few mp3's. Considering doing maybe a little more... so hopefully by the 27th I'll have something worthy to be called an entry.

IMO you shouldn't be but you are. :?

IMO you should be. These challenges are teetering on the brink of extinction these days. Any and all entries should be welcomed. So what if the winner chooses a theme that he knows he has a good chance of acing? At least that way we know there will be one enthusiastic entry.

If it makes you feel better, we can withhold the prize money if G-Man wins again. Oh wait, it's all just for fun, there is no prize money. ?
Or we could withhold the fun and make him post in a blues challenge.

*runs 6 steps away cos blues only takes 5*

                        ?
                          Just pulling your leg!
                          It's a great topic.
The prize is beneficial critique and beating Dewald, oh, and yes it is always fun!

I tried a few idea's out yesterday - didn't record like I had it in my head though :'(

I wasn't having a greatest guitar playing day, so try, try, try again another day.

arg, mine turned out way too horrible to enter. This was unexpectedly difficult to get right.
Alas no entries this month to this cursed topic. I will need to consult the Gods to seek a resolution to this problem.
