orchestral composition

Hi guys

have a listen here and tell me what you think. Its some kind of epic, perhaps battle or adventure sound.
this is the first time i have tried to compose something for a full orchestra, i.e. using the sounds of a traditional orchestra and arranging like that etc. was quite a challenge. but quite alot of fun!

(oh! and i promise i will post a guitar related composition sometime soon, i can actually play one for real reals!)

Nice one man, what did u use to program it?

If i had to say something critical it would probably be @ 39 seconds the transition to the main part feels maybe to abrupt - could have stretched the sounds to maybe let it flow better. Other than that really awesome tune, it must have taken a few hours to program i bet ?

Funny I just had a listen and thought the same thing.ill see what i can do about that.

Oh and ja i sequenced it in logic and i used EastWest Symphonic orchestra gold and a smaller sample libraries from ProjectSAM and 8dio which runs in Kontakt. all effects and reverb (not really that much) are from logics bundled

Sounds Great! My only complaint is you should use faster attack strings for some of the melodies - the slow strings sometimes were dragging with the faster lines.

Thanks Alan that is some good advice. glad you liked it tho. ther are so many different patches and articulations in EWQL SO gold. dont you also have the East West library?
Which legato strings patch do you prefer? i used the lyrical one which sounds the best with a really "emotional" vibrato thing going on but at the cost of a slow attack, so makes it difficult to sequence faster melodies.
I actually nudged all the regions backward a bit to try and compensate for that :?

Yeah, I have SO and a few others. Articulations it depends on the part - particularly with melody parts (sometimes it feels like I spend my life auditioning different patches). Sometimes I'll use two or three cloned tracks and have some notes with one articulation and some with another, or simply stack two articulations together. Velocities are key to some sounds as well, so I'll often end up editing values note by note to change the expression. It's all very laborious...

Ja coincidental, i dont really know the game of thrones song but when my friend said the same thing i check it out. its that interval of the main melody which goes 5 -1 of and then 3 4 5. those same intervals are present in the G.O.T theme (and about a thousand other songs), although at a different timing and different key with a completely different chord progression over.

its a pity tho, with only so many 12notes to work with and so much music being made its a real challenge to get something that sounds completely original!
