Transcriptions?

Does anyone here do transcriptions? There was a guy who offered to do them a year or two ago but seems like his email has changed

if only... i dont mind paying money for transcriptions of the songs i like...
Especially as i always struggle with time to get around!

Exactly, If I had the time to work them out I might eventually be able to, but need a quick fix at the moment. And yeah, would definitely pay ?

I found one service a while ago, but didnt bookmark it and cant remember what it was called..
I do know it was a south african site, and i think it was a lady too.. But they didnt offer prices of transcriptions.
Will see if i can find it again!

when you say 'transcriptions' what do you mean????

do you want someone to write out your original work in notation? , or just notation of established/published pieces ? or are you just looking for TAB??

Tab would be great... Of songs where tab is hard to find.
For me, south african songs! ?

most songs are pretty simple to transcribe oneself...obviously something like a steve vai piece or giant steps is the exception ?

it just takes patience to work through the piece bar by bar .... music is very logical and just basic theory will help

remember music is nothing but 12 notes repeated in octaves.... and most commercial pop/rock/blues is mostly in a set form which tends to repeat parts in identical blocks ...(verses and chorus's and middle 8's) so once you work out one verse the rest usually exactly the same or with only small variation and most commercial songs in most genres stay in one key which eliminates the chords and notes not relevant to that key ... and most use simple chords either major /minor and their sevenths

so try transcribe it yourself , it will quickly develop your ear ...

you stand to learn more musically by transcribing it yourself than by copying a TAB parrot fashion ...

it's truly easier than you think.... give it a try

and the more you do it the faster you will get at it ....

2 jobs, one of which is my own business..
When i do get to pick the ol guitar up, first struggling to figure out what is being played and where, i feel even more inadequate at playing.
So thas why i'd rather pay for a good quality tab that i can at least learn and enjoy something ?

I'd love to give it a go, and I will, but at the moment if its not family (with a recent addition) its work (with a day job that just increased in scope, plus like Norman, my own business on 'the side'). But yeah, that would be first prize, and like you say Kiera, will learn so much more...

Now have a dedicated band rehearsal once a week, and the songs we're learning are not mainstream so no tabs available (I've approached two of the bands we want to play on Facebook/Bandcamp though and they've actually replied with some pointers which is cool!)

But Norman, I have found someone local to us, just waiting to hear the fees etc and I will let you know

For sure, so I'd rather pay someone locally to do it than just some faceless company overseas

I think that anyone charging for this service would come up against copyright issues.

I dunno... Im paying for the time. How is it different from going to a tutor and getting them to teach me?
Or watching videos on the net?

I don't think they will mind if ppl learn their songs, can't sell the music.

And even if someone charge for the servive they can always make a "mistake" as not to copy the song 100%. If it was me, i would want ppl learing and playing my songs at venues etc - free promotion.

So much piracy nways, doubt the guys make money off cd or mp3 via internet.
