Importing and SA Customs

Good day

I ordered Pickups from Guitarfetish about 2 weeks ago. Now i am expecting them hopefully next week. But I want to know how long our customs can hold the package before they release it? And how can i find out if the package has reached SA? I can't track the package as it was sent with USPS First Class International Mail

Depends. Some stuff seems to sail through, other stuff can take over a week. On the whole, expect any mail parcel to take 3-6 weeks including customs.

If you don't have a US tracking number, you can't get a local one either.

my last order on guitarfetish took 2 weeks to get here, and then another week for SA customs and post office

I do have a tracking or label number, but they tell me I can't really track it.

Relax max .... what happens is the parcel gets a new tracking number by SAPO once its been checked in then become traceable to customs, to Witspos depo and then to local PO branch

I figured out it not customs where the delay is, but the agency that brings the package to SA and delivers it to SAPO, they obviously work to some economy of scale to get the best rate/weight freight cost .... thats the MOFO and you dont have access to him

Last time I ordered strings from overseas our post office held onto the damn things for about a month before sending me notification that they were there, which was made even more annoying by the fact that a week before I had that notification I went in to ask if it hadn't perhaps shown up already and they assured me that wasn't the case, but according to the tracking system they did :-[

Just general incompetence I guess

If that happens get hold of their Post Office complaints department, they actually quite good and they do track it down.

This package has not been scanned into SA, which means it hasn't arrived yet.

I have had Pickups from Guitarfetish go "missing" at Customs. US tracking systems show the package left the US, but when I called Customs and asked if they received it they had no record of it ever arriving. I would recommend taking the insurance option that GF offers, I did and they sent me another set of pickups no questions asked.

Problem is I already placed the order so to take insurance now is not going to happen.
