What guitar will you NEVER play?

For any reason other than money! There's a lot of designs I don't particularly like but I've even been tempted to pick up an eye-gouger on occasion. Crazy novelty guitars can be fun, I wouldn't turn one down for a party trick but for me this style is just completely off putting (no offence to Mr Diddley):

I remember seeing Jack White playing a hollow body once and thinking "that's such an ugly guitar, why would he play such an ugly guitar? It's so big and ugly.". I also HATED sunburst guitars. At the time I wanted a black, flame/quilted maple Custom 24 PRS. I was 15.

Now I have 3 hollow bodies and my main gigging guitar is a bright orange, gold trimmed Gretsch 6120 with a bigsby and a cowboy trim. My current favourite home/practice/studio guitar is a '66 Gibson ES-330 in sunburst.

These days if I had R5m suddenly to spend on guitars, the first thing I'd buy would be a Tele, the second an ES-335 and the last would be a Strat and I wouldn't even go close to a PRS.

I never thought I would get a PRS... felt they were overpriced/hyped... but then...I found one that I liked... got mine at 30 years old... lol

I won't play double neck or multi neck guitars...

Sure, it looks Rock 'n Roll but I just can't see the point or the appeal... Can't see it being comfortable either.

12 and six string in the same song? I can see the point. Must be bloody heavy though. And one neck is more than enough for me right now.

I played This beastie exclusively for five years:

It hitched 49000 km with me during my army days (based in JHB, lived in Fish Hoek and had a week's leave every month). Could play a three hour gig with it. Sure it was heavy, but I was young, fit and had a wide leather strap. You get used to it and soon everything else feels lightweight.

The point? I love electric 12s, but you can't play everything on 'em. So the 6 string neck for the rest.

I like the idea of a cheap guitar coz it's a challenge to try and make it sound musical, like J white says - pick a fight with it and WIN ?

@Aubs: I'll play the white Prince guitar, the one from Purple Rain. I think it's pretty cool. That purple monstrosity...maybe not so much.

@Alan: a working man's twin neck. Here I thought they were only for show, respect!

And just for the record, that Casio thing looks super useful as a MIDI controller, I'd play one any day!

Quite a few actually.... :-[

1- Fakes.
2- Anything that looks like it will go well with spandex pants and big hair.
3- Novelty shaped guitars.
4- Guitars with 'Look At Me I'm An Attention Whore!' finishes.
5- Homemade relics.
6- Any signature model by a member of a boy band.

I also don't see myself ever playing Classical guitars or 7/8 stringers purely because I am too crap too to do them justice and don't see me ever having enough time, dedication and will power to do anything about it.

He he he. That Casio thing had a latency of about 5 seconds and that was "straight". I'd hate to think what the latency would be if you plug some midi-cables into it. Like I said, it was good for a laugh, not much else.
