I really enjoy the playing of Charlie Hunter and in the midst of searching for material of his etc I discovered this rather fascinating talk regarding timing and feel in general- It's really worth a watch, and his playing is fantastic as always! ?

The things he says regarding timing are quite enlightening, and really good points to think about and consider, I enjoyed a rather long ponder after seeing this! ?

the first i heard of charlie hunter was when my then-teacher, tony russell, told me about him, told me to look out for the album 'duo'. so i did and i thought it was really great. although i wondered why what was clearly an album by a trio was called 'duo'. i asked tony, and we had a laugh. (also, after listening to duo, i called him charlie parker for a while, because leon parker is the percussionist on the album, and there's obviously already a big association in jazz with that name. took me a while to get out of that habit. just for free, i really, reeeeaaaaally enjoyed leon parker's work on duo - very sparse, but tight and sublimely complementing the guitar work.)

the guy is fantastic. i've got the session in my playlist, definitely think it's worth looking at - and listening to - more than a few times, translating some of that commentary into an exercise or a few...

thanks again chad. and in fact, i think duo is now definitely worth a whirl on the old itunes right now.
