This. Plus it's a thin body - and a thicker SG wouldn't be an SG IMO.

a rose by any other name and all that... i must say though, i love my sg for mostly one reason, and that's the way it sounds. it's a bitch to play. it is neck-heavy, and sits very uncomfortably on the ol' bod when i play. if i could find something with that bright buckin sound i'd switch, but i do love the old bird (all two years 'old' of her).

maybe i should just try strappin to the nut rather than to the upper bout. would that help balance the weight a little more evenly? anyone play an sg this way? potential neck damage?

As everyone says, you just need a strap that has a lot of friction on your shoulder - i.e., not one of those nylon Ernie Ball numbers. I'm just using some cheap synthetic suede thing at the moment and it stays in place perfectly.

Yeah. That's a little better. It deviates from the SG body shape a bit though.

hey singe. i have a really quite expensive levy's leather strap (it's white, bought to match the guitar - the wife loves me too much) which gives plenty of resistance, actually. never thought of the 'fulcrum' (as it were) as being the problem area although that's really a bit of a duh. innit? i tend to play sitting down, so the strap hasn't had much use. will have to rectify that...

actually, the guitar hasn't had much use of late. will definitely have to rectify that. anyone got the wining lotto numbers? enough with this working for other people's living crap already.

i wanna build me a studio and make music - mine and other folks'...

I swapped out the standard P90's for a set of Bare Knuckle warpigs and boy does my SG scream now! !

Hollow body SG? - not enough wood there to do that IMHO.

I stumbled across this forum because I wanted to see if there exists any other form of hollow body SG. I own a 1999 Gibson SG special (modified with a P 94 R & a Seymour Duncan P Rail T pickups). The thing screams, and played like a dream. Sadly, like many other SG's, the neck snapped when it took a bad fall. I got it fixed but the intonation was never really the same. So I decided to bite the bullet and have my own custom guitar built.

The thought of designing a hollow body SG had been on my mind for years and while it might be sacrilegious to the SG or "solid guitar" community, I decided to bite the bullet and bring my design to life. I got in touch with Chris at Highline guitars in CO and he built my guitar for me.

The body is 2 1/2" thick (yeah I know, "that's nuts kid") with solid mahogany back, sides & neck, a flame maple top, and a Bolivian Rosewood tailpiece & 24 fret fingerboard. The pick ups are custom wound, similar to PAFs, with a coil splitting option for each. The tone is amazing. It can sound like an acoustic guitar and then with a flip of a switch, combined with a Maxon compressor and two tube screamers, it produces the best sustained overdrive tone I've ever experienced with any of my guitars, or others I've played.

I'm sure that diehard SG fans will scoff at this guitar, "because one shouldn't tinker with an iconic design" but I'm a diehard SG fan (it's the only electric style I'll own) and my hollow SG takes my tone to the next level.
