this is a very short clip of me messing around in my frontroom,

playing my tele partcaster on neck pickup which is an old 60's big single coil from a japanese 330 copy kinda like a P90 ......

guitar plugged into a Boss FDR1 pedal fender deluxe reverb pedal ...has the modelling for the amp /eq /gain/volume and reverb and trem...all in one pedal
then into a 40W 12v battery powered amp section then into an original old blue labeled fender 12" speaker i got out of a 60's 4x 12 fender speaker cab .... speaker still original ....cabinet of the amp it's in now is my own design and is open backed built for me ... the grill cloth is still from the original 4x12.... so lots of mojo .... ( i actually made a 2x12 out of the 4x12 and can use it in the same setup ......

just doodling on that fabulous standard "Night and Day"

i had fun trying to get the movie to look real old....... kinda happy with the results ... now i wanna shoot a few video's seriously with that look and dress the part ...... this one is the test ...and truth be told the way i filled a bit of downtime between students today

don't take the production or the playing too seriously .... it's just for fun

and a way to show off my battery powered rig ....
which to me i am quite proud of...as a jazz guitarist i get asked to do lots of weddings and gigs where there often is no power outlet so having a descent fat sounding battery rig that sound great .... as most battery powered amps commercially available are aimed at bedrooms or picnics not a gig ...so they usually too low powered or with small speakers... ala vox mini 3/ fender mustang mini (battery version)/ micro cube/ even the street cube is only 5w/ roland ac 33 is better and the only one that i would use is the AER compact mobile which is 60W .... but the AER is super expensive ....
so after virtually years of having techs build cab's /amps ect for me i have arrived at the best option to date ........ as seen and i have 2 of them the 2nd has a 2x12 same 40w amp .... and sounds fatter but is obviously heavier... anyway ... finally thanks to that FDR1 i get fenderish tone/reverb & trem and EQ in a small battery powered package

I'm also a fan of those Boss Fender pedals considering value for money and the colourful tone they produce.

Simple and perfect setup for smaller gigs. Impressed!

So those pedals actually copy the actual amps? Here I was thinking its only the reverb, lmao... Learn something new every day. Nice clip too.

So if it models the amp... what would one plug it into that wouldn't colour the sound? Like, not colour it at all... I tried the Bassman pedal... and it sounded like poo. And I bet it had something to do with what I plugged it into. Sooooooooo.... where would one find a colourless thing to plug into? Each speaker in production has a different colour attached to it too... and celestions don't sound great to me. Eminence does though... although I find that crap sound going into each speaker will have the end result of crap as well. So way too many tongue in cheek things happening in my post.

But in all seriousness... where would one find a colourless speaker and preamp that would do that pedal justice... as it is way cheaper than the amp itself and one can't really expect it to mimic entirely on a shoestring budget...

Yeah. They're a single amp model. I've heard not so good things about the FDR1's reverb. I have the '63 Reverb pedal which is a good simulation of the characteristics of the spring reverb tank, but there's also something I'm not quite happy with about it.

Evo, there's something weird about the bassman one. I've heard a lot of bad demos where it sounds really lousy, and when I tried one too. But I've also heard demos where I've gone backwards and forwards to well-recorded clips of a '59 bassman and it's near as dammit. I think a lot has to do with using it right and with the right amp. It's annoying that they don't have a line out straight to a PA - with a speaker emulator. You have to use them through a guitar amp as far as I know. But I think the potential might be there.

Nice rig there Keira. Really a good example of the practical solution to a working musician's situation.

Cool man... good to know it wasn't just me thinking that and also hearing poo. If you can remember the demo clip you saw or heard and have a link to it, I'd appreciate it. Maybe they had a magic wand that we could steal

I think it does depend on what you plug them into and how much you are letting the amp do, dirt-wise. Regardless of manufacturer's claims, there's no way you'll get a dirty Marshall or AC30 to sound like a clean BF Fender with a pedal.

Keira - I'm a bit more uncompromising with clients: no power, no play (not enough money, no play either). Which might explain why I don't play out much lately... ?

Errr guys i think just expecting a boss pedal that new sells for just over 1 K with discount to totally equal or replace the fender deluxe reverb amp at retail of over 20 k before discount .....is ambitious

however this pedal works for me and others like me who need a pedal size preamp with eq ,reverb and trem and battery powered .....for small live gigs ....

I have personally stood my amp next to the real deal and the boss pedal definitely puts puts the otherwise sterile pa type tone of the amp i use into a similar tone bracket ..... It takes on fenderish character .....

For me the goal was compact BATTERY operation ..... And this does the trick even better than expected ..... I never had too high hopes ...or expectations but am happy with the result and a rechargable lasts about 5 hrs which is great

so this pedal is not the holy grail to replace amps with .... But sure adds enough character and reverb to a solid state amp ....

And i would not use it in the studio .... Its a live tool to keep in your gig bag .....

But i get good tone and sufficient volume to perform with a drummer using brushes with just this one ...... If i add in the 2X12 version it has its own amp section so in effect 80w total i get loud enough for a loud drummer ?

and thats all on battery power ... Of course for indoor gigs i use the big setup when powers available ...

Yeah Keira, not saying it's not sufficient for your needs, but these pedals are a really interesting option for those of us who want that bit of modelling but have no interest in 9845 different amp models - hence the discussion. And on recent demos, at least for the FMB1, I think they're capable of sounding very usefully close to the amp it models.

But whether it succeeds perfectly or not, you're so right. In a very portable unit you've added amp colour back into your sound. Important to realise, I think, that any musician below the level where you have roadies and soundpeople needs to think practically in terms of a rig that you need to set up and break down hundreds of times by yourself.

Singemonkey you so spot on with your comment .... And yes i too fall into the category of not needing a modeler that can do tons of amps .... I like fender tone and thats all i'd use even if i had more available ?

and yes portability is prime for a working muso without the roadies ?

now if we can get a design to put a 5kw pa to fit into a backpack size package ...... Just kidding ?

Good clip that Singe. The difference between that and the bad clips you find all over YT is the guy can play (and even some of the big mags have demoers who obviously spend more time talking and thinking about tone than playing).

Y'know... even for me (who is known to go a little over the top amp model and FX-wise), one or two amp models is enough (Twin and AC30 cover 99% of my needs ...and another .9% is usually a Plexi). Small gigs and jamming I can make do with my Tech 21 Blonde. Hell, a couple weeks ago I did a whole jam evening with the Carvin nylon straight into a powered speaker.

The advantage the single-amp model pedals have is they are as easy to use as an amp and you can plug them into anything clean.
