Tokai Guitars

I have been reading quite a bit about Tokai guitars, but have never seen them anywhere... I am curious to know who sells them in the Western Cape and what do people think about them compared to gibson etc. ?

You saw this in a South African shop ? ? . You should pm the name of the shop to the distibutor ( Tokai SA ) , so that he can contact them to rectify that.
In the meantime if you want a correct indication of pricing , go to TOMS Sandton , they have a whole lot you can look at that are correctly priced. 8)

You know kp247, you continually leave me in doubt as to whether you're a huge troll or you just have very poor reading comprehension. I really can't figure it out one way or the other. I'm inclined to think the former, but you constantly leave me in doubt. Telling us what we can and can't say on this forum on which you are not a moderator sounds like trolling to get our backs up (I'm used to trolls, so I'm unfussed). But then your ignoring the point that I addressed twice and handily highlighted sounds like a comprehension problem. Perhaps you can enlighten us (although, if you're a troll, you'll do the opposite ?)

I think GFSA needs a derivative of Godwin's Law whenever there is discussion of Tokai guitars. Something like, 'As the length of a thread featuring discussion of Tokai increases, the probability of the thread turning into a flame war approaches 1.'

Buying a guitar for resale should be left up to collectors.

Buying a guitar to play is for players. Decide who you want to be and be honest with yourself.

I think buying a clone of a guitar to act like you have something like the real thing is a pretty weak idea. It's not being true to yourself IMHO.

Nobody here will flame you for buying a Tokai, an SX or any other brand. (except Johnson, starfire, first act and red sharkfins)

Why would someone want to deface a Tokai? I don't mind "love rock" at all, I even prefer the older Tokai headstock shapes rather than the Fender ones.

I reckon that all comes down to how honest you are with yourself.
Do you want the real thing? Then buy it (or save up with intention to do so)
Do you like the features it has but either can't afford or don't want to pay tens of thousands of dollars? Then buy a clone you like and be proud of it.

My preference for Tokai are of course the differences in neck shape, size and design. In that sense I am glad they are not identical copies.

I love the Japanese Tokai's - some of the best value-for-money high end guitars available. I think they have a good enough name to be proud of if you care about such things. And let's face it, you could even be playing a Suhr, Pensa, Lentz or other high end guitar and at some point someone will ask you if you'll be "upgrading" to a big brand name, mass produced guitar some day. ?

I know what studmissile means - the Tokai necks are a bit more like the '60s model LPs (which suit more people than my favourite, the chunkier '58 roundbacks).

Yea, which is exactly why he has Gibson on the headstock. And it's unethical.

If people didn't want copies of Gibsons, they would not be buying Love Rocks - lets not forget that the Les Paul is a Gibson guitar.

If you want a Gibson, buy one. If you want a Tokai, buy one. Don't put a sticker on a Tokai so it looks like a Gibson.
