I have been reading quite a bit about Tokai guitars, but have never seen them anywhere... I am curious to know who sells them in the Western Cape and what do...

IMO "Love Rock" will be just fine on a red plastic R10.00 Toys R Us kiddies guitar, but not on a premium Tokai Les Paul headstock!

Just something trivial - are there other players here who have cut their fingers on the metal pointers under the volume knobs on these vintage knobs?

Aaah Thanks Alan! Yeah, I've bent them down myself in the past with a long-nose to prevent being cut, but one shouldn't really do this to a proper Gibson should you! It's much easier just to unscrew the pot and remove them.

So what you're saying is that Love Rock can actually be sanded out and that it isn't right deep into the headstock like one would think? Then just buff up the black again? Can it really be done without there being any evidence of it afterwards?

Hi Guys,

I just wanna give my 2c of info here.

I bought my son a Love Rock about a year ago, (LP look alike), can't remember the exact model, but a mid level somewhere. not top of range.

It has become his goto guitar, (He's got 5 guitars).

We bought the Tokai based on info from this website, and we are not dissapointed for one minute, Money well spent and the overall quality of craftmanship on the guitar is excellent!

Yes, my son is still learning, but he now has a Guitar that allows him to express himself and every now and then he screams from the room that I must listen to the new sound he figured out on the guitar!. Fair enough, this happens with youngsters learning, and obviously I have to listen top volume through his Marshall amp...not good on my ears..hehehe.

Having said that, I will much rather let him learn on a Tokai, which in my mind gives you something as close to dammit to the real thing (LP), and at massive price advantage over LP. This Guitar will be good for a number of years, and when he is big and want to persue a carreer in music, then I will upgrade to a top of range Tokai!...YES, that is how much we love his Tokai!

If he wants a proper LP, then he can pay for it with his own money!

Who cares what is written on the headstock.

Your own skill is more important than the name on the headstock!

If you don't like the name 'Love Rock', then build a bridge and get over it.

There is nothing wrong with the name / brand, and the product is well supported in this Country. an excellent product, and absolute value for money.
Did I forget to say, that it plays and sound just as well and the Branded counterpart!

Exactly. How much work it will take, depends on how many clear coats are above it. And the nitro finishes of the Japanese guitars are easy to touch up as any work blends in.

Sure. It's not difficult by finish touch-up standards. Might not even need to touch up the black. Another, quicker option would be some black over the top with the Tokai logo masked and a couple clear coats over everything.

So you could remove it yourself in 2 minutes with some polishing compound and a rag.

Well put!! I think we worry too much about the name on the guitar anyway...

And its strange that its always Tokai vs Gibson and almost never Tokai vs Fender...
Complain about the words "springy sound" and I would second that though... ?

It sounds like an easy way of getting the desired effect!
If it comes to that I will certainly go this route!

The Love Rock on my headstock was sanded out by Grant at TOMS. The desired effect was simply... something different.
I got the guitar like that through a trade. I don't think I would have bothered but I am glad it was done. It works well and looks good too imo.
There is a very slight left over indentation of the logo though, I didn't notice it until a very long time after I got the guitar. Really not noticeable at all though.

I just wish I had the time to play her more.

Billy has been quoted as saying most of his guitars are John Bolin guitars, even if they're labelled as a Gretsch or Fender or whatever. So, possibly not the best example for any single maker... 8)

Who cares, really? Some people like it, some people don't, some people aren't bothered either way etc. Billy also sports a massive beard and lots of sequins, which has no bearing at all on my own feelings about those things, but might be absolutely crucial to someone else.

Guys, the same point has been made repeatedly from all angles. Can we talk about something else other than condemning how other people feel about a head-stock or a logo? ???

I Agree With Shreddy.

I don't have anything negative or positive to attribute here purely from the lack of Tokai experience. I demo'd a Love Rock LS160 and my first impression was...... Pretty Solid guitar in terms of feel and response.
