Since this thread has been started I have been GAS'n for a tele. That dream came true but due to available funds I had settle for a SX vintage with a butterscotch(Cotch) colour. Not well put together on the finishing end but ooooh that neck! divine.
Wanted to mod but that will be postponed for now.

For the money, the SX tele stands head and shoulders above the rest. I had a thinline version that sounded and played great...but the neck was a tad chunky for me. It had a few mods done to it before I got it (fret edges rolled, pots & switches replaced with switchcraft/cts) and when I play tested against a new (unmodified) thinline - there was -as far as my ears could tell- no difference between them.
Although if you do dig the neck, it's the perfect modding guitar. If I had dug the neck, there was a Emg T-set (active tele pups) that I've been meaning to stick into something for the longest while!
