Musical phrases that changed my life

Valie

These are some of the moments in music that changed my life as a player and as a musician. Some of them might give you a smile, but if I never heard them,I would have never been the musician I am now. I'm just taking them as they come into mind.
1.Pink Floyd - both solos of Time
2.Second solo of Comfortably Numb - Floyd
3. Bass work on "Something" by The Beatles
4. I just died in your arms - Cutting Crew - The guitar work
5. That ghost note just before the solo on Cream's White Room
6. Harmony on October Project's After the fall
7. Harmony on Jefferson Airplane's Somebody to love in the chorus.
8. Mc Arthur's Park - the whole song
9. Anji - Davey Graham as played by Paul Simon
10.Chorus of White Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson
I could sit for hours and give you some examples and I'm going to kick myself for leaving the best out. What makes you tick?

Squonk

all good so far @Alan quite a list.

These are not based on difficulty, but rather on what inspired me.

While my guitar gently weeps - The Beatles with EC on lead.
Whole lotta love - Led Zeppelin The power riff
Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix The chord progression
Genesis - Horizons - Steve Hackett solo on "Wind and Wuthering"
Genesis - Squonk - Steve Hacket trying a rock riff
The Who - Tommy (entire album) I love Pete Townsend's acoustic playing
Thin Lizzy - "Suicide" I loved that dual guitar attack
The Animals - "The house of the rising sun" This is what made me play guitar in the in the first place.
Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven" off "the song remains the same" The lead solo still gives me goosebumps.
Jimi Hendrix - "all along the watchtower" The solo but especially when he steps on the wah wah pedal
David Gilmour - Every thing he has done, but the solo from "Shine on you crazy Diamond"

That's just a tip of the iceberg on the older stuff, I haven't got beyond 1973 yet....

Ray

there was a song by Ultravox. I dont remember the song name and I dont remember the album name, but it had such a simple guitar run in it that was so clear and schweet. All I remember is the chorus goes "baby, baby, baby ......." and a whole bunch of stuff. does anyoine know what I'm talking about?

As I'm always up for a challenge (and on leave ?),I scanned the entire Ultravox lyrics database. Could find no "baby, baby, baby"!!!! Must be Midge Ure doing an ad lib in one of the songs. Check the song titles below - it may jog your memory:

I love Ultravox - my favourites are "reap the wild wind"and "dancing with tears in my eyes".

Renesongs

1.Pink Floyd - both solos of Time

I used to do Breath-Time-Breath including Gilmour's solo - AFAIK there is only one solo ??? Am I missing something.

Life changing moments?

These are strong words. Probably the most life changing musical moments I had was watching Brian Finch & Kenny henson live in the 70's. That made me pick up the guitar and do more than just strum it. At the time I did the accoustic parts (Finch's parts) and my friend did the electric parts (Kenny's).

I also saw Trevor Rabin live once with Rabit in a Pretoria club. I went home and worked out the locomotive breath solo note for note. I was blown away more by the showmanship than the music itself. In those days you could not even get close to the stage to actually watch what he did on the guitar with all the girls fighting each other and throwing panties on the stage!

Solo's that did something to me was (I am typing them as they come up in my head)

Tales of brave Ulysses - Cream
November Rain - Slash
Still got the blues - Moore
Comfortably numb - Floyd
Sultans of swing - Straits

On accoustic guitar I copied everything from
Neil Diamond
Neil Young
Leonard Cohan
Jim Croce
