I want a Taylor Acoustic Guitar But...

I am too poor!!! :?

So, I am looking at alternatives. Something not too pricey but is still of quality and provides good sound. I was looking at Tanglewood and Takamine but any other opinions will be appreciated!

Cort and ibanez do alright. Waldens are also nice.
I have a cort 12 string and a walden dread. The cort has a much richer sound while the walden is loud! Like angry ex girlfriend loud ? check out the Taylor big baby though

I would also be looking at the Crafters with the solid tops, and Yamaha's CPX range. I own both, and find them surprisingly good. I think you'd do well to keep an eye on Gumtree. You are likely to get a better guitar for the same money rather than buying new. That would open up some slightly higher end models like the Tacoma guitars, and nicer Takamines, etc. However, always look out for the dodgy ones! There are too many out there. If the deal feels wrong, then walk away!

I am trying not to go for Ibanez or Cort as I am not such a great fan of them :-[. Lol I'd really like a quality sound/tone more than some loud crazy tone. Thanks for the advice!

I have never heard of Crafter's? I was planning to check Gumtree as it can be the best for the money available.

Sorry, just to clarify, its 'Crafter'. I realise I was not clear there! Sorry!

They started many years back, possibly the early 90's if I'm not mistaken, and at that point were relatively cheap, and fairly nasty, but they soon grew, and quality control has vastly improved since the early days. I managed to get my GAE18N for a super good deal, as the owner was moving abroad. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it has a solid cedar top (more of a mellow deep tone compared to the usual spruce tops), and the quality is very high indeed! Even the rosette and inlays on the board are actual wood, and not cheap transfers which again was a real surprise. The tone is not as nice as my Yama CPX8, but its still very nice! Its also fitted with an LR Baggs system, which sounds very natural indeed. All in all, I'd highly recommend them!

If you really want a Taylor, make a plan, save until you can buy one. Same goes for a Martin, Larivee or any other high end guitar. There is an interesting old Taylor in the classifieds at the moment at a good price.

Takamine are a very good option - particularly if you can find a Japanese one - I've seen some stunning instruments from them through the years. There are also brands like Lakewood and Larch - up and comers. I played a Lakewood baritone a few months back and it was a wonderful instrument.

Brands like Tanglewood and Crafter I'm never sure of - I hear a lot of praise, but the only ones I've seen and played tended to be in the "good for the money" category and badly needed decent setups. I still rate Cort highly for this type of guitar.

This is good advice. Cheaper in the long run to get what you REALLY want. Leads to much less chopping and changing (during which you usually end up losing money).

I am also one of those guys too Alan! Never liked any of the modern Taylors. Find a cheese grater easier to play! IMHO ?
