Fund raisers DO's & DONT's

I'm planning to organise a couple of fund raisers, which will probably take the form of a 'pub' evening.
Do any of you out there have any experience doing that?
What's the best options? Sell tickets at the door or presell ?
Is it better to get a proper pub-type venue, or use a hall (like a school hall or something)?
Are there any tax implications? do you need to apply for some sort of permission to raise money?
Would you normally have one act perform or a couple?
What about food, boerie rolls? hamburgers?
and drinks? would you buy a couple of crates from the bottlestore and resell or get someone to supply and sell for you?

If any of you can give me some tips that would be great.

Tickets: both. Or if you have to choose, at the door is better.
Venue: depends on what type of fundraiser. You say pub evening so a pub may possibly kind of be near to close to what you're looking for ?
Tax: don't know... But if beggars can do it for free, why can't you ?
Acts: multiple. Maybe one more popular and a few up and coming acts.
Food/drinks: boerie rolls are usually fine. Otherwise get in touch with some folk who have food stalls. Chip and dip, burger stalls, boeries and hot dogs etc. it all depends in the size.
alcohol: depending in whether your venue has a cash bar or if its a pub. Then they can sell for you. If not you'd probably have to supply yourself...

I cant offermuch in terms of advice ofe a music evening,but one thing be learnt with various quizzes/barn dances/fashion shows/mothers day teas over the years is tht you can generally get drinks on consignment if you ask nicely and show them the flyer so they see its for charity

I organise fundraisers when i can , the main advice is if you aiming for a pub night , i strongly suggest you host the event at a venue with a liquor liscence ..... And make sure if you have live music or even recorded that the music and attending people is not loud enough to have nearby residents complain .... At moment there seems to be zero tollerance on disturbing the peace especially in residential suburbs ... Even in the day ...... Good luck with the fund raising ... Good to see concerned people take steps to help good causes ....
