Aluminium sheilding tape in Jo'burg.

Where do you guys get the stuff?

I've seen the shielding that Slyd and Costa have done here and here and want to get hold of some of the tape to shield a Squire I'm re-wiring. It's supposedly available at decent hardware stores but I've tried almost all of the plumbing and hardware places in my area and the guys all either look at me funny or offer me waterproofing tape with bitumen on the back or silver duct tape >☹ Does anyone in JHB know of a shop that stocks the stuff?

unless you get the copper shielding from Stewmac.. but thats EXPENSIVE!!

Aluminium tape is available from Builder's Warehouse or similar. I have measured very low resistance across two pieces that are overlapped onto each other. Just bear in mind that you can't solder onto aluminium, so you'll need to screw a lug into shielding to able to earth your electronics onto it

Cool. Thanks. And what do you stick it on with? Looks good on the pics of your guitar ?

EDIT: I was looking at RS Components' site and they have copper tape. Might get that some time for my strat but will give the alu a shot on the squire first.

Thanks. I've tried Builders' Express and a lot of other places and had no luck. Will try one of the big Builders' Warehouses.

but to be honest I never went out looking for the stuff and found it by accident, and havent seen them since.

Well conductive paint does exist, I've seen Vintage brand of guitars have their cavities coated with a blackish conductive paint. dont think is aerosol though

That was the original plan ? I found it too fragile though - kept breaking over the little routes for humbucker backplate legs or something (dunno why the squire has them - it's SSS. My MIM strat is all smooth inside.) The Squire's finish is rough as hell inside too. I was hoping the adhesive stuff would be a little bit easier to work with. Either way, if I find some I'll give it a shot. If not, round two of the kitchen foil.

The tape is much stronger than plain foil, and it sticks like crazy in those rough cavities. ?

At R36 a roll of 5 metres, it's not breaking the bank, and is enough for about 3 or 4 strats, Teles (or similar).

On the overlaps, I use the sharp point of my multimeter probe to poke a number of impressions into the overlapped section, which ensures good contact and no resistance. really works.
