Tablet bracket for Mic stand wanted

I have moved away from having an old fasioned A4 file with all my music in plastic sleeves on a big clunky music stand and have gone for a tablet. I chose the new Galaxy 8.0 for a variety of reason, not least of which is the great deal I got from FNB. I have found an app called LyricPad that will do the displaying on the tablet. Not quite as fancy as the one I saw for the iPad but it will do. Conversion of my Word songg file into txt files is well under way.

Now comes the hard part, finding a bracket that attaches to my mic stand (on the boom) and has an 8"holder for the tablet. I have been to many music stores and dozens of phone stores as well as several Chinese Malls to find what I am looking for. So far, all I have found are car mount kits. Either a sucker or headrest are the only options, besides which they are really cheep plastic. I could buy one and do some surgery to attach it to my mic stand but would rather buy one purpose made.

Any suggestions or advice gratefully accepted. Don

I've seen a few pro level ones in my recent travels looking at Studio stands and workstations. Unfortunately no-one imports stock of any of the interesting stuff, so you might end up importing. Off-hand I remember a very nice pad stand from QuikLok, but apparently Music Power (Marshall's) are only getting in a QL shipment in January. Hey Don, try Marshall Music, they had some Hercules tablet holders that I know holds an iPad perfectly, but they're adjustable and would probably handle a Galaxy tab too.

IK Multimedia is distributed by Gammatek..

The iKlip range is only for ipad, Samsungs wont fit..
that hercules one looks best for non ipad products.

Oh yeah, the iklips are available from dion wired as seen on their website. as to the other retailers, no idea...

Thanks for all the responses. I have seen Evolution on stage and seen their setup so that is where I got the idea. I thought they would be freely available but it would appear Marshal are the only store stocking such a device. I was beginning to think they had been imported as Alan suggested. Next issue becomes the price as you hinted they are pricy. I will pay them a visit shortly.

Ok, now I am really depressed. I visited Marshall only to find my 8" tables does not fit this bracket, it caters for 8.9" to 10.1". An alternative they had ONLY works with an iPad mini. Unfortunately, the salesman was not up to scratch and caused me to climb 3 flights of stairs to find out that the product was right at the front door! Good grief, surely if you work in a place every day for months on end you must get used to where products are kept?

Bothers only stock an iPad ONLY bracket at nearly R800!!!!

It would seem that retailers in SA have no clue what to stock. It has happened to me so many times that I have been looking for a product, checked online to see that such items exist and then found that not one single store in SA stock them. And it is not just music equipment, photography gear, computer accesories and several other come to mind as well.

Also irritating is the the retailers are probably all getting nice cut backs to stock the EXCLUSIVE Apple products so are prepared to stock all the peripheral items as well. Any other competitor that tries to gain a foothold meets with the typical SA retailers reluctance to stock alternate products. If you keep feeding Apples arrogance they will maintain their dominance and keep their prices rediculously high. Start promoting competition, it is good for the economy and helps root out companies trying to ripp off their customers.

Honestly, being a retailer is a lot more than just stocking the common products that everyone has been buying for ever. To be a good retailer you need to see what is happening in the market, anticipate customer demand and then meet it. I have so often been in the market for an item, walked into stores and offered to buy the product for whatever price if the retailer could supply what I was looking for. Sadly, most often I walk out disapointed and the retailer does not get to make money out of me. I guarantee that retailer loose more due to NOT having a product than any other reason.

And while I am ranting away, let me add that the distribution of clothing sizes is a bell curve. Why do retailer by 10 of each size, only to sell out of the popular sizes and be left with odd sizes that land up on sales. And the same counts for colour. Some colours sell more than others. Is it so hard after years in the business to anticipate demand? Yet another example of people doing ONLY what is absoloutly necessary to keep their job, not one bit more effort.

There, got that off my chest. Still sad that I don't have a bracket (or even the hope of getting one soon) but I will get over it. So my music stand lives on, only with a tiny pad on it in stead of a huge folder. 1st world technology in a 3rd world.

So what do you do when you can't buy what you want? You make it yourself. I designed a simple bracket of basic materials that I could buy at the local hardware. A strip of Aluminium, some springs, some bolts and hey presto! Quite proud of the result. I can mount it on the upright or the boom, I can adjust the angle of tilt and I can rotate the pad vertically or horizontally. And It cost less that the cheep plastic rubbish available from the shops.

Only lightly fastened to the mic stand so it is hanging at a bit of an angle but when properly tightened it is a lot more secure.

Yup! My Droid does everything an iPad can do and more. Hey, it even can make phone calls!

Another item now on my radar is an "on the go" (OTG) cable to allow my droid to be a USB host. I have some great apps to control my camera and access memory sticks and other USB devices. In true fashion, only 1 retailer (cheep Eastern Gadget imports) stocks the thing at R90 and at R120. On the internet you can pick them up for as little as R20 so how do they justify the R50 markup? It is just a micro USB to female USB cable about 3 inches long. Guess I am going to have to make my own cable as well! I have the schematic, just need a tiny soldering iron. If it were for and iPad even the corner cafe would have them.

except for using the tablet as a lyric stand, there are virtually zero
music apps avail on the droid, and many many many for iPad, why oh why
would there be freely avail holders for a non ipad holder?

also, on the droid side there are many tablet, many sizes, designing a PROPER holder that would fit them all could be difficult.

if you want piece of mind get an iPad.
your droid cannot and will not do what the ipad can
and im not saying that to start a war.
i do have the 7'' samsung and an S3 as well as the usual apple suspects.
