This is just an enquiry. Say you're using a presonus studiolive 24 or behringer x32 that connects via firewire... is it a normal run of the mill firewire card in the pc that you can buy from a computer shop? Or Is it a specific audio firewire card that has to be purchased?
I assume that some recording interfaces connect via a simple usb port... the same goes for firewire?

I have the Focusrite Saffire Pro and it gave me endless problems with a normal cheap firewire card, then I checked and Focusrtite themselves recommended a Texas Instruments chipset bla bla bla card, needless to say it was a lot more expensive (10x more almost) but it works perfectly.

It should just need a straight forward firewire card in your PC to connect through. THe only thing you'll need to know is if the desks are outputting at 400mbps or 800mbps? I'm not sure which speed those desks output at? The manual should be able to tell you though. So then you just need to make sure that your firewire card is able to operate at those speeds.
Usually, an 800 card will also be able to operate at 400 too, but obviously won't work as fast or efficiently.
Hope that all makes sense? Only on the first coffee of the day!

G!

I've got a TC electronics firewire interface. Had no problems connecting to a standard pci firewire port.

Some chipsets can be troublesome, especially with higher numbers of simultaneous tracks. The TI chipset Mixerboy mentioned is recommended by every Firewire interface manufacturer and is rock solid. I made sure my motherboard had the TI chipset, but you can also buy add-on cards with the TI.
