Yup. There is a reason every audio optimisation guide says that your recording interface should not be the default device in Windows.
It's as if the first application does something to the state of the driver that anything using ASIO doesn't like, the above work-around always works for me.
ASIO doesn't share. It's designed not to. It's for stability and prevents other apps from trying to change sample rates or bit depths while the driver is in use by the recording app.
