Have we talked about your avatar yet? I LOVE Ford Capri's man.
Is that a Basil Green Perana in your avatar? I heard they were outlawed in certain places. I recall something about the brakes were not enough for the power the motors produced. They were awe inspiring when they came by on the road. My V6 could pull them off the line because they'd be struggling to get traction. Too much brute power. But of course maybe around 100-120mph they would come screaming past and be gone.
I'd love to find an old 3000L GT to restore.
Yeaahhh man, that was a genuine Basil Green Perana (BG383), 300 ponies, four on the floor and t'was a rocket ship - they were known as the ''kalahari ferrari''...because it had NO brakes or handling (at least for the power). I'm a big muscle car fan, I really wanted a 2nd gen Camaro (70-73 ideally) but I was struggling to find one in SA and all the alternatives I found were so slow.
I bought it cause it was insanely fast and sounded like beelzebub's personal chariot - The looks grew on me, it is a damn good looking car. I (foolishly) sold it when I went off to Holland for work, if I had kept it it would have appreciated 10x - beating inflation and any other investment, in the same time period, by a eye watering amount. Am I kicking myself now... :-[
The traction thing was the puny 185's at the rear, solved the african way with 2x50kg cement bags in the boot ? The most fun I had was dicing bikes down the N2 - it was that fast (at least in the mid 90's). Of course I needed the width of the entire road to keep it in a straight(ish) line and a km or three to brake...
My neighbor has a sweeeet 3000GT he's modified to > Perana specification. Interesting thing, a lot of BMW M Sport bits bolt right on! His has a 302 motor and a mixture of BMW M3/M5 tires, brake & suspension bits. And a 3 speed drag box...up to 80mph not much can keep up.
Don't really see many around these days, rust was an issue! :'(
