Apologies to all - I have not been able to access GFSA since last week I think my ISP's domain name server got messed up. Anyway it seems to be fixed now. I going to keep this topic running until the 22 July in that Hope that we can garnish more than the current 2 entries.
    LOL.....the challenge that won't die!!

Okay.....I'll play. I slapped something together today....mid afternoon to midnight........and I'm done.It is what it is. I was trying to stay in keeping with what might work as a play on/theme song for a TV show. I don't really know what Agter Elke Prawn means other than the direct translation......but what does that mean? It doesn't make sense to me. I've been away too long I guess. I was having a hard time feeling it and I'm still not out the woods with my 1/2 amputated thumb thing. Playing is about 70% not counting having not played since the injury.......2 months or so. Anyway, I figured to have a go. I hope more of you throw down. Deefstes........you going for it?

Dude, it was the same for me, i could not access the site for the entire week!?
Hi so I can still enter this?

im a bit confused? what is the TV show about, is there a clip to compose to or is it a hypothetical tv show in which you must decide what it is about... I have something to enter, but it has a specific feel that will only work for a specific type of show.

excuse my ignorance, i did not follow the previous thread on it!

also how do i enter, do i just post a soundcloud link ?

PM the link to Rene, who moderates the competitions. He then posts the links to all entries at the same time and sets up the voting form.

[Edit] Take a look at this (now closed) voting thread. http://www.guitarforum.co.za/monthly-competition/the-challenge-april-2013-voting/ All the entrants sent the links to their entry to Rene via PM. Rene, then posted all the links and the voting form after the deadline for entries had passed.
Yeah, the exercise is a theme for a hypothetical TV programme.
              Okay my entry is in.

Actually for all my light hearted "bitching" about this challenge, I ended up finding it quite demanding, a lot of fun and feel I gained a lot from doing it. I really had to use my noggin and I like that. I mean....it's a theme tune.....there are so many aspects that have to be covered in a short space of time and I found myself really having to dig deep even so far as choice of instrument sounds, especially the guitar...... and how I would mix the track for TV........ etc etc etc.

LOL......I mean, it seems simple enough at first....... until you pick up your writing instrument and then it's like.......holy shite....okay, now what? From what I first recorded yesterday.....I listened over and over and decided it was way too busy, like one big jam.....so last night I sat with the guitar and the back trax and rewrote the melody and tossed the whole mix as well. I went in and recorded the new melody/guitar track last night around midnight....listened to that again today and then went and remixed and remastered around 4pm before going for a mile swim. Good stuff!!

I ended up really enjoying the whole process and it felt good to go in the studio and record again. I've not been recording and playing for the loooongest time. It sucked not being able to play guitar. This helped get back in the saddle. Good one Hammeron!

Who else is in? Since we got a major reprieve here as far as the posting date. May as well go for it. Hammeron, are you entering your own challenge or sitting out? Deefstes?
Well now I have more time to tweak mine so yay.

It's awesome that it's so open ended. I'm keen to hear what we all make of a TV show called Agter elke prawn. Is it a soapie? action? detective? Should be loads of fun.

I reckon we should not reveal what type of show we went for until our entries. We normally debate to hellengone what the topic should be so this would be cool to keep a secret.

I'm indeed keen but have been unable to find time so far for putting something together. I've sat down with the intent of doing it twice now but on both occasions have promptly been called up for some or other duty involving the baby. ???
I'm in, sent my [have no idea why] funky prawn-o music.
Back from holiday, so yeah why not, I'll give it a go.
                        Right-o, mine's in.

                          V8......shot guy!

Have we talked about your avatar yet? I LOVE Ford Capri's man. I had 3 before I left SA. The best one was a V6 3000L GT that Ford built special for my dad. It was what they called a VIP build and every moving part in the the motor was balanced etc and I believe it was a high lift cam. Weber carb and all. My dad's Sales Manager had the car until I got it. He put a PowerFlow exhaust on. Damn the car was fast. The beauty of it was the power to weight ratio was awesome!!! Off the line like a rocket. It used the Essex motor I think.

Is that a Basil Green Perana in your avatar? I heard they were outlawed in certain places. I recall something about the brakes were not enough for the power the motors produced. They were awe inspiring when they came by on the road. My V6 could pull them off the line because they'd be struggling to get traction. Too much brute power. But of course maybe around 100-120mph they would come screaming past and be gone.

Remember the V4's. They were slow and all but unusual to see a V4. The Cortina had one I think...maybe Escort?

I occasionally dream really vivid dreams about finding my old Capri in a auto graveyard type place and I fix it up enough to drive home so I can start restoring it. I am always so bummed when I realize I'm dreaming. My drummer had a US model when I was living in Indiana. Very similar but more square looking especially around the headlight area. Mercury Capri I think. I still liked it but they were considered lame cars here.

I'd love to find an old 3000L GT to restore.

Yeaahhh man, that was a genuine Basil Green Perana (BG383), 300 ponies, four on the floor and t'was a rocket ship - they were known as the ''kalahari ferrari''...because it had NO brakes or handling (at least for the power). I'm a big muscle car fan, I really wanted a 2nd gen Camaro (70-73 ideally) but I was struggling to find one in SA and all the alternatives I found were so slow.

I bought it cause it was insanely fast and sounded like beelzebub's personal chariot - The looks grew on me, it is a damn good looking car. I (foolishly) sold it when I went off to Holland for work, if I had kept it it would have appreciated 10x - beating inflation and any other investment, in the same time period, by a eye watering amount. Am I kicking myself now... :-[

The traction thing was the puny 185's at the rear, solved the african way with 2x50kg cement bags in the boot ? The most fun I had was dicing bikes down the N2 - it was that fast (at least in the mid 90's). Of course I needed the width of the entire road to keep it in a straight(ish) line and a km or three to brake...

My neighbor has a sweeeet 3000GT he's modified to > Perana specification. Interesting thing, a lot of BMW M Sport bits bolt right on! His has a 302 motor and a mixture of BMW M3/M5 tires, brake & suspension bits. And a 3 speed drag box...up to 80mph not much can keep up.

Don't really see many around these days, rust was an issue! :'(

Yikes I know!!!! Especially in Durban. You could buy a new car and it would have terrible rust damage before you paid it off.
