There is a post-script to this story. Dylan's lawyers have notified the producers that 1) he still has the original 1964 Fender guitar from Newport, and 2) this guitar was stolen and should be returned to its rightful owner. History Detectives defend their report and insist the guitar's historical value regarding the 1965 Newport concert.

Well from the video I'm pretty convinced it's the Newport Strat. The comparison to the photos settled that to a high degree of probability.

Anyway, before the auction announcement it seems that Dylan had decided it was his guitar and has signed over ownership. So it seems to all be legit and above-board.
