Acoustasonic Strat

Hi all.

I bought an acoustasonic strat some years back.
Never seen anything like it before, and only once on you tube since.
A really pretty little thing....

It gets some brilliant reviews.
I enjoy playing it.... Its like playing on a super light strat.

At best I get an "interesting sound" out of it.... Unique, but in my incapable hands, a bit abrasive.
Nothing like the "knocks the socks off my Martin" reviews.

Has anyone here any tips how to get a more natural acoustic sound out ot it?
Any good little amp it pairs well with?
Does anyone here rate this thing above a sort of fair ground attraction?

Ah, I see. Well, generally these small thin bodied guitars can't really compete acoustically with the larger bodied acoustics. I played Gearheads Stratacoustic for a couple of months and unplugged it was rather thin sounding and trebly. But plugged in, it was decent. I just played it directly into a PA, never tried it through an amp. I would imagine you'd need a pretty decent acoustic amp if you don't have a PA to play through. I just EQ'd to taste and it was fine.

Put .012 acoustic strings on it. The ease of playing does not outweigh the loss of tone using anything else.

I would play that baby straight into a decent PA. You'll probably get the most appreciation of the full-range acoustic sound there.

Alternatively, as you're playing an "acoustic", one of the new acoustic-specific amplifiers would do the trick. ???

Thanks for inputs....
But its designed with 10's in mind.
Bridge is fixed so the intonation would get schmangled with 12's i reckon.

Its also rated way better than the other fender hybrids.
Has a really great and unique sound.

But it's very mid heavy. An in your face kind of sound.
I battle to get it into the background in a mix.
It stands out and in the way of the electrics.

Straight into a mixer is, kinda like an electric, not so great for me.
I'm planning to try out acoustic amps...
Just hoped someone might have some tips what to look for - no experience with them.

It's blue... Saphire blue or suchlike - very cool colour.

Yip - i reckon it needs an amp to have on stage control before it goes into the PA.

Open to suggestions what brand though.
Can't find any other players suggestons anywhere

So, if you're not going into the PA, what are you plugging into? That's gonna have a big influence on the plugged in tone.

If you can't get a decent tone plugged into the PA, you're not going to get it with an acoustic amp - which is basically a mini PA.

Have you tried a DI box between the guitar and the PA?

I'm no great guitarist - and only on stage once a year for the hell of it.
Either I play at home into a Boss BR and monitors - or a mic'ed up Ampeg BA112 bass amp.

I've very briefly played through a DI.
Maybe I should've experimented a bit more with it....

Do you reckon i'd get a better sound through a mic'ed amp or its DI out - or at least easier control?
I'm ready to buy.
Just not sure what.

But don't want to waste my money either.
Maybe I just make peace with the sound - and just use it where it works - with no electric guitars in the way.

Bought myself a Fishman loudbox mini today.
It does the trick for me.

The Acoustasonic has fishman piezo eletric pickups under the bridge.
It has only 1 tone control - to me mostly like a treble filter.

If I drastically cut the mids on the Fishman i get a good natural sound.

Just tried it at home.
Won't say too much until I crank it a bit....
But i'm chuffed.
Both guitar and amp are impressive.

After first jam session i am gobsmacked.

The Fishman Loudbox mini amp gives me perfect control for both volume and tone.
The clarity is perfect and with 60w its crisper than going through 10 000w of PA.
So much more convenient in a practise session.

The acoustasonic guitar now shines.
I get the tone i'm looking for, and if i up the gain it gives a great chunky sound for lead lines.
Very comfy, no feedback, light, and almost unique.

Unplugged it has a volume much louder than an electric but much softer than an acousic.
I can play is the still of the night without waking family, or while watching tv if I wanted....

Bought it years ago on a whim, but now really just realizing my lucky strike.
