Rediscovering Joe Satriani

Hey...so I was looking for an overdrive pedal and found the Vox Ice 9 some time ago. Then I started checking out the Satchurator and started listening to Joe Satriani again after a couple of years. Man it sounds so good listening to this guy again! Favourite tunes at the moment = Made of Tears (really nice grove!) + The Crush of Love (I dig the wah. What wah was he using here? Anyone knows?) + Cryin' (Just really nice and soulful!).

Anyone else here digs Joe Satriani?

Not 100% sure, but Satch has always been a fan of the Dunlop Wahs, and on the live DVD I've got where he does play that track he uses the 535Q specifically, though I have also seen him with the Hendrix crybaby, and given that Vox were responsible for what was technically the original crybaby it wouldn't suprise me to see him on one of theirs if they even do one these days?

I was talking to an ex-member the other day about how easy it is to forget what a monster Satriani is. He has a great ability to compose some unusual melodies, and is a technical powerhouse in every area.

I think his tone is still a bit "cartoon-ish" (I heard someone describe it that way and it stuck ?), but some of his tracks are real rock instrumental classics. My faves are "Always With Me, Always With You", "Love Thing" and "Flying In A Blue Dream".

I need to get some of his cd's in my collection again...will check out the Crystal Planet cd. What I like about Satriani is that (IMO) unlike other shedders his not just showing off how fast he can play but actually do write some really nice music. The added bonus is that he plays guitar...God bless Joe!

Was watching this concert the other night.
He's not one of my favorite artists, but I give respect where's its due.
I really liked his version of, Waterfall, the Hendrix track at the end, although... it could have done without Jonathan Mover's broken a*s singing. He definitely makes a better drummer. :-\
