in-ear (bud-type) earphones - advice please

domhatch

howdy y'all. seems all i'm doing these days is asking for advice. at the moment i'm using my akg k-44 headphones at work. two problems; 1) they're big 'n bulky and 2) i want to use them at home so the kids can practice piano on the clav without interrupting a whole bunch of other stuff that's going on around them.

i'm looking for decent quality (in terms of sound and comfort) for use at work in-ear, bud-type, earphones, and i'm hoping one or more of you will have had experience with something i can also use. i've tried out the 'earpods' that came with my iphone 5. they're pretty comfy and the sound quality is not bad at all, so if all else fails i'll go that route.

thanks all

Google for reviews. I had a pair of Griffin Earthumps which don't really live up their name (for which we can be thankful) and which I passed on to the wife. They weren't bad. Now I have a pair of Denons which are quite good BUT there is quite a lot of mechanical noise from the cables into the earbuds. That can be bothersome. Good reviews will deal with details like the amount of mechanical noise.

I'm no expert on these matters, but I've tried a fair amount of earphones over the years and IMHO the Sennheiser CX300-II are pretty decent. They can be found in almost any Look & Listen and costs around R400 when I bought them. There are better earphones around, no doubt, but for the money I think these come out on top. I've had mine for about 2 years and used them on a daily basis at exceptionally rude volumes and they're still in very good condition.

As always with these things: your mileage may vary.

Edit: I should probably add that they do an excellent job of blocking outside noise and even at high volumes wont bother anyone sitting next to you.

the earpods are great for just listening to music in everyday, as some other makes block your ear too much (like in-ears for musicians) and that
can become uncomfortable in daily use, you WANT to hear traffic or your boss calling you and not be detached from your surroundings.

ive got some sets that came out with the galaxy stuff, very sim to most semi pro in ears and the ONLY place outside the stage i would prefer them over the earpods is on a plane.

the earpods the came with iphone 5 are just perfect for daily use imo.

Arial 7 earbuds. I got a pair for 100 bucks 3 years ago and still use them. Solid in ears!
