Decent classical pieces...

Hi, I Have been playing guitar for close to a year now and quite recently started focusing on my classical playing. The problem is... I Can't find any really nice spanish/classical songs that I can learn. I Started learning Romanza (which is awesome) but after the first segment it get ridiculously hard.

I Have heard of "Classical Gas" might try that once I find the original song or something to work with.

Any suggestions on this front?

The other songs I can play are: Pelagias Song (one string ftw!) Imperial March (Starwars FTW!) He's a Pirate (You ought to know this one) Fur Elise (Beethoven FTW!) En several other minor themesongs.

There are plenty of movie themes that can be played quite well on a classical guitar but I am looking for authentic Spanish or Classical, like Romanza or Fur Elise but slightly easier.

Being the lover of easy laid back peaces... I'd like to suggest a simple piece from my Sky Collection.

Carrilion and you can turn up the distortion pedal to get a bit of crunch too...

Classical Gas is cod classical. If you don't have any religious opposition to that then go ahead. I'm just pointing it out.

If you want to learn a piece that people might think was vaguely classical and that makes you look a clever bugger then try to get a tab and a recording of Davey Graham's "Anji" (Bert Jansch also recorded this). Then get rid of the faithful, 100% accurate tab and look for one of the simplified versions that preserve the main strokes of the melody and it's development, still make you look clever to 99.5 % of humanity and are easier to play.

Thanks for the Advice thus far. Also, what do you guys think about Romanza as a Spanish/Classical piece? How hard is it compared to other pieces? Also... It is a cliche? (I Don't want my best played song to be to the guitar what chopsticks is to the piano)

Ahoy there! Here is a great website for free sheet music, which sometimes comes with the handy tabs in conjunction(mostly for the Latin stuff)...makes life a lot easier!

Composers that I can recommend who composed good and satisfying pieces for beginners are Aguado and Carcassi (check out his Etude's, they're basically studies that sound nice and get you to play better).

Also if you want a good website that has great beginners exercises in reading music, with some duets check out http://www.hochweber.ch/guitar.htm

Very useful and keeps you challenged while you progress at a steady pace.

I'm afraid it is a bit of a cliche. Was the first finger picking piece I learnt, and is probably one of the most played pieces (as in known by the most guitarists.
Also, it is not a particularly hard piece, but then, nothing is if you start learning it slowly...and every piece you try to learn at full tempo will be very very hard.
You've been playing a year dude...just keep playing and en joying it man. If you enjoy playing the song, who cares how many other people can play it?

You could also try Tarrega's Etude In E Minor - Really simple, and nice on the ears.

I would say you should get Frederick Noad's classical guitar book ( Frederick Noad's Classical Guitar Books (Solo Guitar Playing Books 1 & 2, Anthology Series, etc...)

That has long been the syllabus for grades 1 to 4 in South Africa and is comparable to international standards.

Tackle it, practice your pancreas off and get someone to advise on the details before bad habits creep in. That would be my approach.

Oh Romanza is too hard for a beginner piece. The people that tell you it isn't is playing it wrong. That I can guarantee you.

If you like Spanish classical then one of the nicest journeys you can embark on is the Tarrega Etudes... ALL of them! Jose Ferrer's Ejercicios will push you but they are VERY Spanish. Also the Fernando Sor etudes but I suspect you'll gravitate more to the Tarrega and Ferrer because most of them have more Spanish flavour.
