MKtv closing down on DSTV

Not sure if this has already been posted.

MKtv, with the reason of financial problems is losing their place on the DSTV channel list.
They will be moving the platform to an online distribution service (live online tv).

This will definitely have a big impact on the music industry, MK being one of the main channels to get your music videos out there on actual television.

MMMMM... positives and negatives about it...
I don't have DSTv so I could possibly watch it online now...
Negatives... it leaves only MTwhats'snonense... lol

A shame - I have been watching it fairly often recently. It has been quite a pleasant change from the same old same old on VH1 and the dross on MTV.

an interesting one , but not sure ZA is 100% ready for net based streaming...bandwidth is still relatively expesnsive, forget about watching live streaming on 3G as the costs go thru the roof... I don't live stream much but watching that oke jump out of balloon at 37 000 feet gobbled up a gig in 3g usage and I was not watching for much more than 20 minutes.. until fibre into the house is the norm I suspect this business model in ZA will not work... TV is a lovely medium for when you want to veg an be brain dead.... flick a button watch music, flick a button watch sport , flick a button watch movie ..... tv brings the entertainment to you, all other forms you gotta go to the entertainment...

but good luck to MK , I liked em ..gave musicians here something to aim for and to be played on ..... I liked their shoot outs and their sponsorship of music events...I hope they thrive on the net...

In my opinion they will certainly not die out completely. MK has created an "MK culture" of followers, which I'm sure those with uncapped Internet will follow them online.

But this is very sad for local bands. Some of the people in upcoming bands are in uproar over this.

In saying that... MK was a hoot,showing the state of the music quality here,LOLo
I was embarrassed to show my o/s mates visiting here,but they accepted it as a cultural thing...whew!

but alas,it was that or nothing for us....

and in saying that..I cant see why the government didnt subsidize the show...what a shame..LOL
and it falls under arts and culture...the money was there... ready and waiting for youth based projects in all forms
or maybe the producers didnt even bother..
Sh%t..that was a perfect opportunity to wangle a nice BEE deal and fatten the wallet..they blew it...Musicians?..Bah!...they never learn..LOL

I can't help to think there's more to this story, why did they suddenly announce this? They seemed to do fine in the past.

"Financial problems" can mean a few things in my opinion.

No skin off my teeth. They were great for Afrikaans rock.. but not much else..

If you were an English RSA rock band and got play time.. you were probably quite well known already.

Feel bad for some of my mates in afrikaans bands that now have 1 less platform to give them exposure
