Q for the electrical types: pin & socket connectors

OK Guys - I'm looking for pin & socket connectors. Something like the following: The idea is to set up three or four Strat pickguards with different pickups and identical switches and pots. Then I'll quickly swap the pickguards out on the same guitar to compare them. These connectors will let me do this quickly without having to solder them in each time - just capo on the strings (to keep them in the nut), neck off, swap out the pickguard with four screws, pop the neck back on and tune up. So, anyone have any idea where I can find the like locally? Also if anyone has a spare pickguard (or two) I can borrow, I'd appreciate it.

Hey Alan,

Those pins are Millmax pins, I use them in a few of my pro audio designs. They are pretty standard pins for any of the discrete 990 designs, of which there are many. I may have one or 2 in my box of tricks and the accompanying sockets. Shoot me a PM if you need em or want more info.

I'll go one further, I'll tell you where to get them!

Typically I import from Mouser or Digikey in the USA.

Here are the part numbers for both at each store:

DIGIKEY PIN: ED5052-ND
DIGIKEY SOCKET: ED5021-ND

MOUSER PIN: 575-310220
MOUSER SOCKET: 575-034420

I will be placing an order with them in a week or and am happy to split shipping if you need some. I've struggled to find a local source for them.

Hey Alan,

Yeah, they are the agents, but it is NOT a stock item... they can get them, but the pins are R3.90 EACH ex VAT, and we have to buy 1,000!!! Mouser has stock and on a SINGLE UNIT their cost of only R3.80.

Future doesn't carry ANY stock it is all ex North America and Europe... just a front to a big global warehouse, at least others like Mantech/Farnell and RS carry some stock locally.

I'm prob not going to place an order for another week or so because I have to consolidate a couple orders/projects, I may also be getting another Smallbear order if you want in?

I think I should send you a pin and socket to check it is what you are looking for (though judging my your pic it is indeed correct).

I'm sure it is - I looked on the Digikey site and they look perfect. It just has to take 24AWG and solder, strain relief is not neccessary and I'll use heatshrink tubing for insulation. Anyway, for the price, it's worth any small risk involved.

If I need to order a hundred of each (I probably only need two dozen or so for my own uses) so be it - I can always package them as plug & socket pairs, maybe with some heatshrink tubing, and sell off the excess to other forum members who want to do the same thing.
