They have some cheaper models too, but their forte has always been the active 5- and 6-strings, where they were one of the few getting it right. More expensive as they are one of the very few companies in any industry that make virtually all their own parts - they don't subcontract or buy in many generic parts.
...and yeah, Kluson are only strictly speaking Kluson if they are made by TonePros. Kluson went out of business decades ago and were not available, but every manufacturer from Mighty Mite and Ping to Schaller and Gotoh made/make Kluson style replacements across a wide range of quality ranges. Then a few years ago, TonePros bought the rights to the name and are making decent Kluson branded again (better actually - the original Klusons were not great, IMO). But there can still be a huge quality difference between Kluson-
branded and Kluson-
style.
