What gear are you currently running?

Im currently gearless ? Well not really... I have some old memorabilia, which never gets played, and hasnt been for quite some time (Yamaha acoustic & an Alto Sax).
Recently decided to get back into playing guitar again, so have bought a Les Paul Studio (which Im waiting for delivery of) and hopefully this weekend will be deciding on an amp head and cab ?

When I started playing I was a kid still, and couldnt afford any half mediocre equipment. Which Im now actually quite pleased about. lol. Ive been aching for this LP for about 25 years, and now I can (sort of) afford to get her ?
Im like a kid at Christmas waiting for her to be delivered!

This is her. A 2001 LP Studio, Desert Burst. Apparently one of the last to be manufactured out of the Nashville factory, entirely. From what Ive read the manufacture is now split between a few factories who each have their roles? (sorry I had to fix the link)

Stunning man. (could not load your pic but googled similar). There is just something about the Gibson sound. I have always thought a Fender to be your more un-refined rough sound ala early Keith Richards, Knopfler, Burton while the Gibson sounded more like a gentleman, smoother and more emotional. Don't get me wrong I love both the sounds, my Telecaster is still my favorite but the Gibson takes the spot when you want to play clean "chick" music full of minors. I want to plutz every time I log onto you tube and some idiot is demonstrating a Gibson on full distortion and moving up and down the frets like someone being electrocuted. To hear the "actual tone" of a Gibson play it on clean each string at a time and feel it don't hear it. That distinctive 57's sound where the sound sounds like it is going down a tube still gives me goose bumps.

I have to agree with you there.
I originally wanted a Tele, but I think as your musical tastes change so do your personal requirements with instruments.
Although I have met guys in the past who really like the look of a particular guitar, but know the electrics and other characteristics dont fit their requirements, so will start mashing all the odds and ends they need together into one guitar. I guess it makes for some interesting instruments ?
Im more traditional, and prefer to stick to the originals.

The Fenders Ive played, Ive REALLY wanted to like. Both the Strat and Tele are legendary pieces after all.
But when I spent time with them, playing them, they always kind of felt "odd" and a little uncomfortable to me for some reason.
Not the guitar for any reason whatsoever... more me. At the time, I was almost wailing and lamenting, thinking there must be something deeply crap about my technique and playing. lol
As you get older though, you kinda come to the realization that, just because its one of the finest guitars ever made, doesnt mean its the RIGHT guitar for you.

Ive always liked the heavy weight of the Gibson, although nowadays with it being weight relieved, Im not so sure about that ☹
The 60's style neck, as well as the wider Traditional neck, both seem to fit me better as well. Kinda like your favorite pair of comfy pants.

I couldnt agree more actually.
I do believe a lot has to do with the wood. I know lots of people pah pah, the old theory of resonance on old wood... but I think you can hear the difference.
That along with the old school beeswax pup mounts etc. I love hearing and watching guys shredding well thought out and meaningful leads... but the mindless stuff I more often than not see makes me laugh a little and move on.
