binding glue

anyone know of a good binding glue that one can find locally?

overseas they use weld-on cement - which has methylene chloride and some other goodies in it.

If you're looking for weld-on I'm assuming you'll be using plastic binding? I used good quality thick viscosity super glue / CA as per this guy's video.

Make sure you have some acetone on hand to save your fingers afterwards... ? Worked a treat though.

Edit:One caveat though, superglue may stain/alter the colour on certain types of wood, so if the wood's going to remain visible I'd test first...

high viscosity super glue it is! and yep i'm using plastic binding. thanks Rikus. have some acetone from a previous project so that's cool.

the wood is going to be visible.. can't hide that beautiful walnut. will just have to be super careful i guess.

Less is more!! Work in small sections. If you're going double bound do the back first, so that any mistakes you make in the beginning are slightly less visible. Use a thin bead of superglue to avoid squeeze out. Prepping the binding channel is super important. You need it to be as clean and perfect as possible for the perfect flush fit. If however you have a few small sections that don't fit completely flush when glued you can fix that with a bit of binding paste... scrape off some shavings from the binding with a blade and dissolve in acetone to make a nice thick paste. The paste will fill/hide any imperfections and will blend completely with the binding.
