What would you give up to see a Band???

Background:
My buddy told me this morning that for my 40th this year, he'll pay for a premium ticket (assume that this is golden circle) to go and see Iron Maiden and Megadeth in September in Austin Texas......if I can get there.

Downside:
I need about R15 000 to make this happen to pretty much cover my ticket as he'll cover the rest. However my fund situation is anything but ideal at this stage as we've just moved house and all the extra money has been used to plug holes that come with moving.

Solution?
Even though the show is only in September, in order to get a cheaper ticket, I have to pay for my ticket no later than the 29th of this month. I'm thinking that maybe parting with pretty much all my guitars, 5 electrics and an acoustic..........but I'm thinking is it all worth it to see one show?

but, amp, pedals, PA and speakers would pretty all have to go.

I'm finding the whole golden circle / premium ticket thing a bit hard to swallow. However, for most of us on GFSA travel costs are by the far largest part of the cost of seeing the musicians we really want to see.

Now I will say a shocking thing: It's not worth getting into hock or selling treasured possessions in order to take an overseas holiday and go to a gig (even though it's somebody you really want to see). Ask your friend if you can take a rain check and he can splash out for a ticket for another show on another year.

If you do it, check out gig guides and see what else you can catch. My last three overseas trips I caught three live shows. They don't have to be in stadiums. Austin has a great music scene - much of it happening in night clubs and movie house sized venues. Which should be cheaper and you'll be closer to the action. You don't get these chances all the time - so make the most of it.

The big issue here is timing, if I was given maybe an extra month I could of done some extra graft to pay for this. I flat refuse to get into crap financially to go to this. This is what I get for buying 6 medium priced guitars and medium priced gear.....lol. Next time buy high end.

I know what's going to happen though, I always need to think things over and the grounded side of me will say , "no....wait for a tour date in the UK and plan for that date".

Now of course my Uncle has told me to blow this off and go to download with him this weekend as Iron Maiden are headlining there and he'll pay for everything, but I can't get time off work..................LMFAO.

You can bet there'll be something! Maybe even take a flutter. I've been to some shows where I knew very little about the artist or knew their reputation but not their oeuvre and I had a blast.

SA is becoming a hot destination for artists and even though the guys from maiden are recieving their pensions ? I doubt they'll stop performing any time soon... I'd do what Bob suggests about the Austin music scene and rather wait for maiden or megadeth to hopefully do a show here ?

Well, it aint gonna happen.......at least not this time. I had a chat with my buddy and said thanks, but timing is all wrong. He says that he'll get someone else to the show, but that he'll keep me informed as the scene is HUGE in Austin (cheers X) and that they have big name headliners in town all the time.

So the plan of action is to hit the US next year for a longer PLANNED visit once someone big comes along.

In the intirim, my wife has agreed that I can be thrown out an aeroplane for my birthday as I've been bitching to skydive for years.

That's a tough one Flatfour.
I've seen Maiden and Megadeth live, albeit on different bills..and they are both class acts.
Maiden especially, put on a great show

All the bands I wanted to see in my misspent youth are eventually coming on tour now...
It's too late by 30 to 40 years... I'm no longer interested, and now the ticket prices are way ridiculous.

I'm no longer making the effort.

I was trying as a last ditched effort to work this around a work trip, but I'm off by about a month. Plus I had a look at all my stuff last night and I've spent quite a bit of time trying to get everything that I want.

If it's meant to be, I'll get to see them someday.
