Every now and then I mull over the notion that the thing that made the 60's players so interesting was that they had influences - and lots of them. In general I find that the most interesting musicians often have what I think of as "big ears": They listen to a wide variety of music.

Clifton Chenier was name dropped on by Paul Simon in "That Was Your Mother" on the
Graceland album. His son is CJ Chenier. I saw CJ perform in Houston years ago. What a party! Irresistible grooves. Great music for, as they say in those parts, cutting a rug.
