Ben Bad, you are fast on your way to mastering the art of bulls... I mean advertising. I think those were two different songs, and the porn was the most convincing part.
[deleted]
Thanks Viccy!
There are actually 3 different songs, hence the title ?
It seems that social commentary is an increasingly arcane artform....
Also, Chord Melody Skills seems to be lost on the majority of peeps on this forum, pity!
At the risk of repeating myself, listen to the full album, then decide if its bulls... advertising or not ?

Vile...
Sorry I'm don't know if you serious or not. With all do respect if you are.
Its just a mess... A mess... Absolute shambles...
Not my cuppa coffee.
The last bit is cool. But 1min to long. Work on that.
The rest.. Ay ay ay
[deleted]
No its not going unnoticed, it has no begin, has no point, no direction, has no end and nothing ties up. Random.
The dodge guitar noises and notes that are played in the middle is that the 3/4/8/6/3/11 timing with the oxymixolypsycolidian scale... ???
Maybe im old school.
Perhaps this is the future of music...
I'll dwell in the past.
[deleted]
Well, it is a parody in some ways....
I will certainly "work on that" Brent!
Wow, awesome to get so much positive feedback from my fellow countrymen! ?
[deleted]
It's a pleasure!
oh please, what planet do you come from, social commentary is all we have, what's wrong with just being social for a change?
I have listened to a few other songs, and don't get me wrong, I said the porn was the most convincing part. I didn't say it was bad, but perhaps try be as convincing as the porn maybe.
I like some of the harmonies you've come up with, but your melodies are a little stunted, sorry, only word that came to mind.
I love that you love what you're doing, but perhaps come up with something to say, that you want to say, instead of putting together other stuff other people said and calling that commentary.(cheesy I know)
I also know being a critic is easy, but it's the one thing that I appreciate. I can't stand it if I suck at something and no-body is nice enough to tell me what they really think.
Now I've avoided practicing enough.

Before this descends into Total Ad Hominum Ludditism, lets have a bit of context ?
Here is the Album Itself, Humus Bang, a challenging collection of Progressive World Metal.
This is NOT all that I do, it is a tiny fragment of my musical spectrum.
[deleted]
I can only be honest... Take the criticism anyway you want. You cant please everyone ?
Its still rubbish to my ears...
I'll give the album a listen when my ears recover

Stuff other people said? Uhmm.......These are original compositions (apart from Funky Town), they might not be everyone's cup of tea, but there's certainly nothing else quite like them out there. If there is, please enlighten me!
As for sucking, well.....I may do many things musically, but sucking sure ain't on of them!

Wow, 290 views in one day! The mind boggles!

Now that is superb!!!
I really like that. Will give the whole album a listen!!
1st song is superb..
But stay out of that other warzone. This hemisphere is great.
Kudos

I listened to some tracks and it's nice Arabic Metal, with some Jazz thrown in. It's lacking in the harmonic progressions to kick it into a new level. If you want a mood change, you need to do more than to drop the instruments out and go to soft airy samples. Sorry, Funky Town was my favorite.

NO thoughts at all besides that Alan?
Sorry, had to run out for the day and I never comment before I've listened a few times and digested.

reminds me of zappa in some ways
Agreed - some of the sound montages like
What Ever Happened to All the Fun in the World on
Sheik Yerbouti. Some of the oddball rhythmic stuff earlier was also very Beefheart.
I'm no stranger to the odder stuff (Zappa, Beefheart, Belew, Cage, Cale, Kosugi, and all the microtonal/atonal guys like Vick, etc.) - in fact I immersed myself in a lot of it for a few years. No, it's not the most insane piece of music ever - not even close. ?
I liked some of the parts, but felt they didn't always fit together - the last section in particular, which I enjoyed.
As far as the critique goes - this is challenging to listen to, so surely you shouldn't be surprised at the response?

North African, Turkish and Indian musical forms are not known for their harmonic complexity.
Au contraire, I listened to a few of your pieces, pleasant....
Alan, I didn't think anyone would take me THAT seriously RE "most insane", that was just a spot of random hyperbole lol!
Of course its challenging, its extremely challenging! In fact, its a total MindF$%K! That was the manifesto when I started recording it last year ?
Compared to the musical landscape of the 70's, no its not that crazy.
But compared the modern landscape (an increasingly sterile and homogenized place)....who knows....

Once again, thanks everyone for the great feedback!
If nothing else, controversial!

"North African, Turkish and Indian musical forms are not known for their harmonic complexity."
I understand that, I play African music myself and I do love the hypnotic quality it has. I actually love composing like that too, but have come to realise, as a composition it needs more character. That's my opinion of my own music as well, so don't think I'm being harsh.
[deleted]
BTW, check this out, might be more to your liking ?
Although be warned, the harmonies are simple! ?

Love the African/Mid Eastern fusion. Perticularly the Mid Eastern.
My Dad brought some tapes back from Somaliland a few years back, loved it.
My preference would be to combine it into a more Metallic scenario of course, like the Egyptian band 'Anarchy' with whom we will be jamming in July.
As for the other stuff, nahh. Comparing it to Zappa really doesn't make it any easier to swallow. To me it falls outside my non-eclectic definition of music.

Ben -Big pat on the back from me, not particularly for your composition but for your pleasant attitude with regards to some of the criticisms. It's nice to follow a controversial post that doesn't degenerate into a boxing match!

Thread cleaned up substantially. Please don't let it degenerate into a mud slinging match again.
Criticism is fine, so are opinions. Sarcasm and personal attacks will not be tolerated.
