You are well within your legal and moral rights to hang on to it. It's yours. No need to feel guilty.
If you want to be a super nice guy, tell him you'll play it for a week and if by some chance you don't bond with it, you'll sell it back to him.
Unusual that he had buyers remorse before you even got back with it. Did he seem unsure when he sold it to you? Maybe he had another buyer offering more after you left...
I made an appointment to see the dude at 4pm and actually pitched up almost 30 min early as I was eager. The guitar was a steal as I suspect that the gauge strings were the issue and not the truss rod. I played it for a bit, checked it out and we shook on it and he gave me a bag with some parts as well as the hardcase. There was no mention of "man I'm gonna miss this".
He did say that he had 3 other guys lined up to see it if i say no.
About 10 min after I left he called and said that he thinks he made a mistake, I said that I'll call him back when I'm back at work. I got back and his "brother" called.....(he was alone at his flat, no family members around) and said that it was a gift from his dad and that he'd give me R500 extra and come and pick it up for my troubles. I did say that this is a done deal, but if I change my mind I'd let him know.
