benefit performance by Keira Witherkay & Conrad (string symetry) 17th /6 in Pta

so the benefit is in aid of another womans(camilla) dog rascal who is part of our regular 'dog walking ' group at a local park in our suburb of pretoria, and this dog(Rascal( a jack russel was savagely mauled by a pit bull in the street just before the park entrance , the owner of the pitbul gave camila a false phone number and has not been seen or heard of since ...leaving camilla with a huge vet bill as this was not a simple bite but a viscious attack and rascal in icu and has receive in excess of 80 stitch's ....

so i decided we need to hold a benefit to at least help with the vet bills , and our local eatery will supply the venue , live music will be supplied by myself doing my jazz guitar thing....and conrad and letitia(known as string symetry)performing some flamenco and classical pieces....and i'm sure a few of our friends will support and perform also ..........

for the sports fans the mc of the event will be Dave Jones , who is also a dog walker in our group , he played football for manchester city back in the 60's and came to south africa and coached Pretoria city footbal club which we now know at supersport united , he's a fascinating man to corner and get him to tell you some sporting tales ,

we holding the event on 17th june a MONDAY (public holiday ) in the day ....so if you in jozi or pta please support this,

"Rascal's Benefit"

the benefit is to raise money to assist with vet bills

venue Bella Sophia cullinary cafe, cnr of chamberlain and 18th ave ,Reviera, pta

date monday 17th June (public holiday )

time : 12-30 - 4 pm

live music by Jazz Guitarist "Keira Witherkay" and Flamenco/classical duo "String Symetry" and friends

a donation of R50 per person is expected towards Rascals vet bill and if you are fortunate to be able to afford more please feel free to give what you can

food and drink (liscenced premises) will be available to be bought from the restaurant ( full menu available)

all money donated will be given towards the vet bills , the organisers & artists performing are donating their time and talents for this good cause.

it's great cos conrad and Letitia live close to where i stay in Pta and this is now the 3rd time we shared the bill, and our styles of music are very different yet fit together so well, that we offer some nice diversity and yet the styles still fit together well ......... the guitar jazz and the flamenco and classical ,,,

now Bob if only you lived in pta you would round out the show perfectly for the day ... nudge nudge wink wink ...if you free on monday 17th ... and happy to drive to pta and donate your talent ... pm me asap as your acoustic/storytelling style would be perfect ..... **** this is a serious offer Bob if you keen to participate , you performed at the last benefit i organised for the artist gabrielle le roux and would love to have you play again .....but that was in Northcliff... but it's only 40 min by car , 5 min by lear jet or 3 days by donkey .... so consider this a public invite ?

Hi All

A very significant development here. Abri Jordaan (the classical guitarist) indicated that he would want to contribute by playing some solo classical pieces for Rascal's benefit.

Of course we are very excited to have him and I could actually not believe my ears when he asked if he could contribute by playing.

It is not often you get to watch one of our country's leading classical guitarists play in a humble little venue for the sake of a Jack Russel but apparently he was taken by Cammila and Rascal's plight and now we have one of South Africa's best classical guitarists on the roster. Who woulda thunk it?

So for anyone with an Interest in classical guitar...you can meet Abri (a very approachable man) on the day. There aren't many classical guitarists of this callibre in our country and probably none would be as selfless as to offer a performance of solo pieces out on the stoep of a small restaurant for the benefit of a small dog. ?

Please support the cause.

Yes fab development , with Abri contributing his talents ..... But he too is a dog owner and walks his dog at the same park as we do , a fabulous man and lovely player ....

We still hoping bob will throw his hat in the ring .... Twist twist that arm .... ?

OK so this event raised enough money to cover Rascal's vet bill Restaurant was packed! There was a wonderful sense of community.
Abri played some of the big Tarrega and De Falla pieces. It was really one of the more special gigs. Leaving one feeling warm inside etc.

Keira has this way of pumping out happy, Corgi satisfying jazz grooves with ridiculous skill that warms everybody's insides.

It was my first time playing in front of a crowd, and that after a measly 6 months of taking this guitar thing seriously. It went a lot better than expected, but what happened there on that stage was all because of Keira's awesomeness at teaching the guitar ?
