I recently got a Boss DD-3, but was really dissappointed. I can't hear a huge difference in my sound. For example, it doesnt have the impact my Boss Reverb pedal has, no matter how I tweak the knobs.
I must admit, I've only tried it at low volumes with a practice amp, but surely volume shouldnt affect the effect?
What am I doing wrong?

Hmmm, a delay, although can give a spacey sort of vibe is quite different to reverb.
The biggest thing with delay is getting the speed right and the amount of feedback (repeats). The speed has to be in time with the song you are playing. I mainly use a dotted eighth note (u2) vibe. Unfortunately a dd3 doesn't have a tap tempo, so you'll have to tweak the speed (very slowly) It'll be quite sensitive. Tweak it until the repeats are in time with the speed of the song u are playing. A good way to do this is pick the open 1 e string and tweak the speed with your other hand.
Does this help?

Oh and turning the effect level right up should give you a big difference in your sound, again depending on how much feedback u have and the speed (d.time)

It's possible to make the delay sound as loud as the original with a DD3, so you should be hearing something.
Silly question - You're not plugged into the "direct out" are you? That has no effect on it, but is used when you want to run direct out to one amp and the delay (from the "Output" jack) to another. If you plug into only the output, you'll get both mixed together.
Otherwise, if ya ain't got nuttin', take it back, it's probably faulty.
