...to start looking for a new guitar.

A while back I sold my Epiphone LP - coincidentally to the same guy I sold my Cort acoustic-electric to last year, so I know it went to a good home - and I've been hanging onto the cash contemplating what to buy. The problem: I'm still not sure. :-\ I'm thinking of another Strat or maybe some kind of hollow-body, but I thought I'd stick it up on here just in case there's something I haven't thought of yet. ?

1. My budget is around 4k, preferably including a case. The budget can't really go over that.
2. I'll be sitting down for most gigs - standing only occasionally.
3. My genre is blues and I've been listening to a lot of Robert Johnson, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, BB King, Eric Clapton.

Thoughts, recommendations, etc would be appreciated, especially in the case of a hollow body, don't have much experience with them.

Difficult to tell you what you want. ? If you don't know, then perhaps you don't need it?

Why did you sell the Epi? Don't like humbuckers? Then I'd say look out for something with P90s to try. A Tele is also a possibility. Another Strat is pointless, IMO.

Wait, save, and buy a 2nd hand MIJ Tokai ES. It's a semi hollow which avoids feedback issues. They're light. They look awesome. They're super-comfortable to play standing or sitting.

Stop selling mediocre guitars to buy more mediocre guitars. Save, or sell a bunch of guitars and get a really good one.

Why don't you get something Quirky like a Danelectro, or one of those Trevor Wilkinson Italia guitars.

Look at a PRS SE Custom Semi Hollow. You will like it.

Look at the Epiphone 339 Pro. It's got coil tapping so can decide if you want to play single coil or humbuckers. I play blues-rock and this thing is ideal for sitting or standing, super versatile and pretty. Cost me around 3.5 k and I'd rather play this than my high-end telecaster. It's just a brilliant guitar. Light weight, hollow body, good balance... I can go on and on for ever...

Robert Johnson, Son House = acoustic
Howlin' Wolf, Eric Clapton = strat
Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, BB King = humbucker muddiness

I'm only judging the Howlin Wolf from an lp I have which sounds stratified and bright. I might be wrong though... his guitarists never held my attention for as long as his monstrous voice did. So just judging from the choices you gave - 3 go to humbucker muddiness. Win (for you).

But it all depends on the type of blues you play in the long run. There are a few suggestions with the ~~bumhuggers~~ humbuckers so perhaps follow their advice. I'd only ever play blues with a strat as its the style I play in that it sounds best with. The Tokai might be a good choice though - probably cheaper than that PRS thingymabob

Waiting and saving not an option at this point - which is why I stated my budget. I'm looking for something within the price point I mentioned. If, somehow, I can add to it, I will. Selling other gear is not an option either (even though I've considered it) just because I've got my other gear down to what I need. On the question of having more than one Strat, I simply like having a backup and if a Strat is what fits in the end, it fits. ?

And: I sold the LP because standing it hurt my back and sitting down it was just not comfortable.

Check gumtree. Theres someone selling a MIM for 3000. See if you can negotiate 1 or 200 bucks extra and have it shipped over.

Sounds a tad harsh ( ? ), but it's good advice. People really are selling some crazy good gear for very reasonable prices on the second market right now and if you wait long enough your dream guit will pop up sooner and later - and you will have cash on hand to get her.

Edit - Aaah OK, only now saw your post about saving not being an option. Apologies. But don't be too hasty, even within your budget there are some gems to be had if you're patient enough.

The gumtree guitar market is kinda "cut throat" at the moment... Find a good guitar and make a silly offer... the luck might just come your way 8)
