Three 'South African' movies I just keep on watching...

Well, not really South African movies, but movies either made in SA, or about SA.

I can watch them over and over again, they're inspirational...South African miracles.

1) Invictus
Clint Eastwood's movie, Morgan Freeman was brilliant, Matt Damon did a fine job playing Francois.

2) Endgame
I love this one, great movie.
William Hurt, Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Thabo Mbeki), Jonny Lee Miller, Mark Strong.

3) Searching for Sugarman
Got to love this movie.
Rodriguez lyrics rank up there with Dylan, IMO.

I can't even remember how many times I've watched them, but at least 5 times each. ?

I thought District 9 was pretty good. I also enjoyed Cry Freedom.

A recent, local feel-good flick that's worth looking out for (I think it's on DVD) is Fanie Fourie's Lobola. A local humour film that doesn't descend into slapstick.

de Villiers, Vilje Maritz, Neil

I must take a look. Thing that gets me yawning is Leon Schuster. I must say that I enjoyed Material plenty as well.

I also thought Material was a great movie. I was expecting a full on comedy but it surprised me big time!

No mention of Stander?

I recorded sugarman last night.............now I need some free time to actually watch it.

I was quite disapointed with safe house.........the story lacked somewhat.

Ja. That was in my mind and then slipped out. I liked the way it recreated the look and feel of that era, and it's portrayal of the Stander gang's outrageous chutzpah - like robbing the same bank twice in one day.

Great Movie - I enjoyed the part in which Paul Slabolepszy who was playing most probably the Police Commisioner makes a statement " Our Police are Impotent"

District 9 I thought was very clever

There have been some great Afrikaans films as well. I remember seeing Tobie Cronje in a couple in the late 70's

The bank manager is very proud of himself, bragging to the media that he has outsmarted the Stander Gang by splitting his cash between two vaults, and those doff criminals think they've wiped his bank out but they only got the smaller part of the total cash.

Stander just says "Alan...."

Then it cuts to the broadcast you mention. IIRC.

Which really happened of course. They'd hit multiple banks in a day before, and Stander guessed, and guessed right, that the one bank the cops wouldn't be watching was the one they'd hit less than an hour ago. Plus he wasn't going to let this grootbek bank manager have the last word.

lmao, spot on.....................who played the bank manager again? He was a bit of an 80's icon in SA if my memory serves me right?

We went to watch Blitzpatrollie two weeks ago. The Missus was NOT impressed ? I had quite a few guilty little chuckles though.

I really enjoyed Jerusalema as well. And Roepman was a good one too. And Paljas.

Recorded Sugarman and can't wait to watch it. Remember they hype when he came here in the late nineties and listening to Cold Fact until it poured out of my ears. Should be brilliant!

I'm quite keen to see "Fanie Fouries Lebola".

I can't believe that UNTAG has not yet been mentioned. I think I watch that movie a minimum of 5 times a year (ever since I was about 6).

I finally got to watch searching for sugarman last night..................I can't believe that I took this long to watch it......well worth the time.
