Lack of GAS

I have this terrible affliction ...... complete and utter lack of GAS....nothing even remotely makes me want to open my wallet...... and I am far from the pinnacle of gear collection let me tell you...

I made a concerted effort to be very choosy this yearwith buying kit....to the extent I seem content with my current gear collection.....

GAS is one thing, lack of GAS possibly worse... 8) but it is cheaper that's for sure.

Maybe you have a lack of inspiration to play, that will cause the lack of GAS.

Do you record your playing at home?
Get into that and your GAS will explode all over again. ?

I haven't had GAS for 18 months at least. I know musicians who do not suffer from the gassy affliction. Why are we starting up a 12 step program here? "Hello my name is Bob and I don't have GAS. It's been 8 months and 3 days since I last bought a piece of gear."

It's fine. If the itch starts up then scratch it. If it doesn't then that's OK too. Key thing: You need to be playing what you've got and enjoying it. If your current gear meets your needs then all boxes are ticked.

OK... that's me banned from every music store in Jo'burg.

I had the same problem a while back.

All it took was a jam on a Tom Anderson guitar and a noodle on a friends 60's fender bassman to get my GAS back in full force.

Ag. It happens as you get a good collection of gear together and become more selective. These days I can walk through most shops with barely a "meh", not seeing anything that tempts me to even pick up and try.

Don't worry - it's not gone, it's just in remission, waiting for the right piece of gear to flare up again in full force. ?

Talk about a lack of gas , a friend and jazz guitar mentor of mine bought his original new york built epiphone zepher ( i think) jazz archtop new back in the 50's as a first descent guitar .... He's now 77 and has only ever used that guitar , for his pro gigs over the last 60 odd years he's been playing gigs .... Now thats a lack of gas ?of note

That is so true, I'm happy with my guitars (for now at least) and my amp, but home recording attempts opened up a whole new spectrum of GAS ?

I'm pretty chuffed with what I have atm as well.

But

A new amp wouldn't hurt.... And my baby blue strat doesn't sound quite right yet - maybe yet another set of pickups will finally get me there. And speaking of pickups, my Ibby AJD deserves something better as well. And some decent pots. And tuners - Something nice with wooden buttons.
