NGD - Ibanez XIPHOS XP300FX

So this is 6 days late but here she is:

It has some paint chips on the body and the wiring was dodgy (rewired it all last night!!), but I picked it up for a steal on gumtree.

Played it today through my 200w Randal amp at band practice and it has a much better metal sound than my RG321MH, surprisingly.

This is the basswood model, the xp300fx.

So I am going to fix her up and show some before and after pics.

Nice, that guitar screams (and growls) metal! Would love to hear it in action, post a heads up on GFSA if you play any gigs in Durban.
You must be stoked you got the wiring sorted, nothing more frustrating than something that doesn't work and you don't know why!

Yeah it was really frustrating because when I played it at the guy's house it sounded great, then when I got home it would just buzz like there was a bad earth when I touched the pickup rings and bridge. So I soldered on the bridge earth coz it was missing, then it just started buzzing when I plugged it in!! Removed the earth wire, still buzzing!

So Psean posted a pickup diagram and I rewired it from scratch according to Seymour Duncan. I'll sheepishly admit that I wired the switch upside down... Up position gives you bridge and down gives you neck pickup... hahaha. I'll flip the switch around tonight after work. ?

As for the gigs, yeah man as soon as we head up that way I'll post some details on here, we were due to play at the Winston in March but things never materialized, then we played a Bike Week gig in Margate instead. Would much rather play in Durbs though, the crowds down on the South Coast are apathetic to say the least when it comes to metal.

Nice eye-gouger you got there ? Do you have a case that fits it? When you see that pic of it sticking way past the edges of the normal case, the chip make sense!

Haha, yeah it came with a "custom" Ibanez gig bag, the shape is a bit extreme. It's the budget version of this a BC RICH STEALTH, my DREAM guitar:

Yes it is the Chuck Schuldiner model, the band DEATH is what made me want to learn how to play guitar in the first place so I've kinda been working up to one over the last 3 years. ?

Death are the business. One of the few death metal bands I still listen to. Symbolic is just awesome.

Ever since I saw PaulJ's post I really took a serious shining to that guitar, seeing it in person didn't improve things as well.

That guitar demands that you play nothing but metal on it and that you play her lowwwwwww........then again chuck played pretty high on his stealth.

I suck at playing loooooowwwwww slung guitar, haha! My profile pic is the lowest I dare go before failing completely at life! ;D I must say one thing that I just noticed this morning on Youtube...

I thought I was being lazy because that tail/wing piece makes a damn nice anchor and resting spot for my picking hand's wrist, but Lo and Behold! Chuck did something very similar in some of his Spiritual Healing Tour clips while performing. Makes my tremelo picking and speedier stuff as easy to play as it is while sitting.

The Explorer of mine is the same, very relaxed playing when you rest your picking hand.
