Hey, I been lookin' for a Les Paul type guitar to suit my rythem guitar playing for quite some time now. Stumbled upon a Gold Top Tanglewood on Saturday :-\, came home and pondered long and hard, went in today, played it and then came home with it ?. It may not be a Gibson but it is the best I can do for now until I become famous and Gibson build me a custom.

Top : Solid Mahogany Body w/ Flame Maple Veneer
Neck : Mahogany, Set Neck
Fingerboard : Rosewood - 24 3/4'' Scale
Bridge : Chrome Tune-O-Matic
Binding : Cream ABS
Tuners : Vintage White w/ Tulip Buttons
Strings : D'Addario 009
Pickups : 2 x Entwistle Alnico Humbucker HV58

i am yet to try tanglewood electrics, i'm sure it must be just as good as some of the nice tanglewood acoustic guitars i have played

Congrats! It certainly looks the part, in fact, looks almost like an Epiphone (the longer headstock).

Is it just the pic, or is the body quite a bit thinner than a LP?

Sorry, Alan, I have no idea. I have been trying to find some dimentions but have not had much success. I could measure it if someone else could give me the thickness of an LP to compare it with.

Marshall in CT but it was the last Gold Top. They had a honey burst and another burst though.

So far, no electronics issues. All switches and pots are noise free and functioning as expected. I tested these in the shop before buying. I had a quick look under the skin yesterday and the wiring looks neat and joints well soldered. I am sure I could easily upgrate the pots and switch to better quality ones later if they start giving problems and am toying with the idea of changing the PU's but the Entwistle are doing the job adequately for now.

I did a set up last night, lowered the bridge and checked the intonation (spot on!) so I am good to go. Played through my bands play list testing out various tones and am very happy.

Tuned my Ibanez Roadster II 540R to open G as well so I can play slide without having to de-tune and re-tune (hell on a floating bridge!). Now I am all set up guitar-wise, another step closer to my dream setup.

These are fantastic Guitars for their price. I would look at these and the Cort CR Custom in the Les Paul range. I will check Marshall out here in Johannesburg. Thanks mate have a blast with it.

Nice one Don. Looks beautiful ? .... From the one time I checked them out at marshall they seem to be a bit thinner than the Epi's.... Compared it to my ZW Epi LP though.
