Hi

So in a moment of weakness I bought an Ibanez Xiphos off gumtree for a bargain but with a few chips out of the tail pieces, which I will be starting a thread on to ask for some questions how to fix coz I dunno how to do it properly.

So it played very nicely but I noticed that the pickup rings would cause a loud buzz when I touched them, so on further investigation inside the control cavity I saw nothing lose or any dry joints etc, but I noticed that the bridge earth wire had been removed. I installed a new one but now I get no activity from the pickups, just buzz. I removed the wire and still buzzing.

I need a wiring diagram for inf3 and inf4 pickups with a 3 way switch cause I can't find anything. Hope I haven't stuffed
it up or anything.

Can anyone think what's going on?
    Odd one for you, innit?

Sounds like your earth is hot and vice versa. First check the output jack hasn't been reverse wired - that's a common mistake. Then check the pickup wiring, paying special attention to where the earths are connected.

Should be something like this I would think:

thanks guys, I'm gonna attack the wiring tomorrow.
          Hmmm.

Followed all known diagrams and still no go. Just buzzing.

I'm going to try and hook up just the volume pot and bridge pickup for practice tomorrow. Such a weird problem.
If you have a multimeter you can check for continuity with the earth and all the wires from the pickups. It does sound like some kind of earthing problem.
Ok thanks, I will do that again, just so weird.

Ok, it's all working fine now.

Thanks for the advice Alan, Psean and Peterleroux , I used your diagram Psean that you posted, I desoldered everything and did it exactly to the SD specs,I just had to swap the SD Black for IB Red , SD White/Red for IB White/Black and SD Green/Bare for IB Blue/Bare en voila, all working fine now.

No buzzing on the pick up rings or bridge and it's sounding perfect.

Thanks guys, it sounds really good!!

              ? ? ?

I know, sorry man! I have such a lousy camera on my phone but I plan on making a NGD thread tonight!

I played the Xiphos through my 200w Randall amp at practice today, amazingly it blows my RG321MH out of the water on the cleans and the pinch harmonics are insane!

                      It is a beast!
