For me this is the PRE-bitch about the stores and the REASON I shop online, I'm not too worried about incompetent stores ripping us off that don't carry 3/4 of what you want becoming the norm as that's pretty much the way it is and has been for quite some time. I really don't see it as a chicken-or-egg situation, I view it more as a case of we've had no choice but to shut up and put up with it until recently so now that we don't have to any more....we DON'T, it's not like it's because people are shopping online that the music stores suck, it's the other way round. All the music store defence is coming across like battered wife syndrome, it's pretty strange.
Overlooking the unpleasant analogy, how is it so strange? People on the shop side of things are providing figures, explaining how cash flow works, pointing out that a real-world store has costs that an on-line store doesn't and so. Them's called facts.
To me it's purely a case of:
a) you can go to the store and buy "x" for R25 000
b) you can order "x" online and have it delivered to your doorstep for R8560
OK... I'll bite, but only if you've got figures from an actual transaction where the two xs are the same product, not same general shape, where they both new items, and where you factor in VAT, bank charges, the whole tooty.
If you choose (a) because you want to handle it and smell it and whatnot before buying it and you feel some need to support the shop owner and his overhead/expenses/cocaine habit whatever, then be my guest. I just want the best price/value for money I can get...............that's called "smart shopping".
Dude, shop owners are people. Just stick to the figures, that's where this story comes true or turns out to be a myth.
