Singe , that tokai copy in the back is gorgeous.. ? that the angus ?
Well, until I get the real thing, the Gibson's ok for now ? Yeah. It has some nice vintage features that most SGs don't have - like a 1 piece body and a abr-1 bridge instead of the usual nashville. The pots though, as I said, are crappy, and the set-up left much to be desired. It still needs some work to really get up to snuff.
The amp is an 18W that EZ built from various parts. Just a regulator on the power, tone, and volume. So by setting the power lower, you can get vintage power-tube distortion at reduced volume. 3 knobs is all I need. It's got a 35 year old greenback 'speaker in it. Lapdawg build the cabinet in the style of the original Marshall 18W combos from the 1960s.
Tokai LS160 comes with CTS pots and all kinds of 1950s features. Cheap enough to upgrade one of the other Tokais with most of them though. Since my style revolves around controlling the drive from the guitar, the taper of these pots makes a big difference to me. I can feel out exactly how far to turn the volumes to clean up a little bit or a lot - while most pots, like those on the Gibson - may as well be switches. They're pretty much all on, or all off. Fine for players who do everything with pedals and just leave all the pots maxed. But useless for everything else.
