What are you listening too????

What's in your turntable, CD player, Mp3 player currently?
what's inspiring you in January 2009?

I pulled out a couple of old Mike Oldfields and am enjoying the way he used put down one rhythm and then just build a melody on top of it.
Listening to "Portsmouth", "Incantations" and "Ommadawn"
Also big into Joe Bonamassa, It's like Gary Moore meets SVR etc. Listening to "You and Me". Inspirational to say the least.
My wife bought me "Rodrigo y Gabrielle" Live in Japan - much of the same, but a couple of concert videos and Gabrielle's percussive rhythm is inspirational.
Also in the mix:

Eva Cassidy - Songbird
Radiohead - OK Computer
Van Morrison - Avalon Sunset
Alien Ant Farm - (My 7 year old son's favourite song of all time. Smooth Criminal)

List will most probably change next week

Ray

Also pulled out some old stuff, some just oldish. Tito&Tarantula (did quite a bit on the Desperado soundtrack), Tim Curry (I'm so F'n lonely), Reverend Horton Hood. Not for inspiration, just for a relisten.

Eisbrecher....German Industrial band along the lines of Rammstein meets VNV Nation...

No bad words about TP&HB from me, I enjoy them. Just a bit of a contrast from the Eisbrecher.

I don't think there's a single '08 album that i could listen to from beginning to end without skipping. Closest is Appeal to Reason - Rise Against.

Bane

hmm 2008 brought some awesome albums, let's hope 2009 can live up to last year

I'm in a sort of folk/bluegrass mode at present. So for me it's...

Transatlantic Sessions series 1 - various artists
The Crossing - Tim O'Brien
Cuilidh - Julie Fowlis

None of these are consistently notable from a guitar point of view - but then there's more to life and art than guitars (wonder if I'll get away with THAT).

I have some Davey Graham on order. Oh... and a DVD of Jackson Browne & David Lindley doing a two-man acoustic show.

Oops... I left out Bruce Cockburn's "Speechless" album. All instrumental. He is certainly notable as a guitarist. As I grow older I am warming to the idea of instrumental guitar pieces. It doesn't all have to be squeaky clean, sterile Wyndham Hill type stuff.
