Obituary - Bob Brozman

Slide guitar and world music great Bob Brozman passed away a couple of days ago, but details have been sketchy. The story turns out to be a little sad.

But there is something remarkable here. The injuries that mean he played in pain and which eventually meant he had to stop playing and thus plunged him into a terminal decline happened many years ago.

A mate of mine saw Brozman play in London in 2009, and said he played a great show. Lively, witty, full of top notch playing.

Perhaps there's some joy in his keeping it going for so long.

Although Allen West, (ex Obituary guitarist) was arrested last week for having a meth lab in his house. Eina!

It's always kind of a double tragedy when a person who does great work commits great evil. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth. You want to just give yourself to admiring their work, but when they've done such wicked things, it's hard to just take the art on its own.

Not cool at all in my opinion. Who knows, maybe the truth will come out. For now, lets hope its not true.

Ja it appears so. I read a tad more online and it seems he's pretty much blatantly guilty. Eish!

Child abuse is a terrible, evil business and we are right to be angry and disgusted in such cases.

That said, I'd advise a word of caution in this particular case. It looks like there's a mountain of accusations against Brozman but, in fact, there are just two accusers who have involved themselves on several discussion forums. Copy and paste does the rest.

The two accusers are an ex-wife and an ex-agent (whose version of his relationship with Brozman has holes in it). Might these two exes have an axe to grind?

Their position is that the truth will never come out because Brozman was ABOUT to be charged but died before the charges were formally made, and the police do not comment unless a charge is actually laid. The flip side of all this is that their allegations will never be tested either.

And you know, it sounds odd. The police in the UK (where one of the alleged cases happened) investigated the allegations against the late Jimmy Saville even though there was no chance of a conviction. Why will there be no investigation, no comment in the case of Brozman? Why did a parent not report an incident that happened in the 90s, and still hasn't reported it at a time when the British police are turning over every allegation from 30 or more years ago against actors, musicians and celebrities? Brozman inherited a lot of money from a wealthy father. His estate would be worth suing for compensation.

Look, I don't have a chip in the game here. I'm no Brozman fan (though he was a very good musician and an important revivalist) and I tend to judge musicians by the music and not by them as people (otherwise there are too many that I wouldn't listen to). You just have to be careful deciding what the truth is in cases like this, especially when what looks like lots of allegations are the same allegations made multiple times.
