Jeff Hanneman Guitarist Slayer Passes away

Jeff Hanneman, a founding member of the heavy metal band Slayer, has died. He was 49.

Slayer spokeswoman Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald says Hanneman died Thursday morning of liver failure at a Los Angeles hospital with his wife, Kathy, by his side.

The guitarist had recently begun writing songs with the band in anticipation of recording a new album later this year. He had been slowly recovering from what was believed to be a spider bite that nearly cost him his arm after he failed to seek immediate treatment.

Robinson-Fitzgerald says it’s believed the bite contributed to the failure of his liver, but it is unclear whether an autopsy will be scheduled. No funeral arrangements have been made.

Hanneman co-founded the thrash metal pioneers in Huntington Beach, Calif., in 1982.

RIP........that's harsh.........I was speaking about him yesterday on the big 4 tour..........real shame.

I didn't know that the last time he played was back in April 2011???. I wonder if Gary Holt will move in for good now?

Yeah... pretty sad. His solo's were the only ones I liked in that terrible... I mean that band. Guess I'll listen to seasons all day.

I'm speaking merely from what I've heard/read over the past two years, regarding Jeff's hiatus, but it just seems that Kerry King had handled the band situation wrong. Very heartless imo. Who knows, maybe he loved him like a brother.

That's the way he is, just look how he handled Dave leaving...........he just got in a replacement and they carried on.

My good friend is such a huge fan of this ~~terrible~~ ... this band. He's prolly gonna cry now... or at least I'm goading him in to it. Never know how far you have to push someone till they cry. Alcoholics and bikers... gotta love em.

It's Slayer. Not a Hallmark card. Hanneman has always been a recluse, they've never even nearly pretended to be friends. Respect!

I think Kerry King may not be the easiest person to be around. If you've seen the big 4 extra 'bonus' behind the stage foootage, he wasn't like the others friendly or so. And he also didn't participate in Am I evil...
