So, this is one of my all time favourite tracks from Audioslave, and I think its mainly because of the main guitar plinking all the way through?
BUT, I'm battling to tell how this sound has been created? Firstly, I am assuming that its a 12 string electric thats been used, or at least some form of doubler/octaver, but what else is being used?
Here's the track from youtube just so you can hear it yourselves....

Thanks in advance for any assistance. Its been baffling me for quite some time!
And Mods, if you feel this would be better placed in the recording forums, then feel free to move it?
Regards
G!

it sounds like a digitech whammy pedal ?

Edit: Agree with Manfred. Morello is a well known user of the Digitech Whammy.

Ok, digging deeper into mr. Google, a few other sites discussing it also suggest the Digitech Whammy, pitched at two octaves up. I still think there is some form of other effect mixed in, and most likely is some form of modulation, but at least I'm now on the right track!
The most annoying part here is that I very nearly bought a Digi Whammy for a bargain price a few weeks back, but just missed out by a matter of minutes!
Thanks

That's pretty much all Whammy - it's quite a glitchy effect when the sampling is short, especially if you have the regeneration up, and it results in a kind of random pitch modulation when mixed with the original sound. The regeneration coupled with the delay inherant in a digital pitch shifter also gives it a bit of a tail, similar to a "shimmer" or "freeze" type effect.
